Our re-sponse to good news is often one of doubt. A popular program on public television is An-tiques
Roadshow. People bring in their old treasures to have them appraised. Whenever someone has an item that receives a high estimation of value, the response is inevitably one of doubt and suspicion: “No way” or “You’ve got to be kid-ding” or “Are you serious?” We need to confirm, to verify, and to see for ourselves that something good is true. No one ever says those things when the estimate is low or an item is deemed worthless. Instead, they say things like, “I knew it” or “I thought that would be the case.” We are indeed plagued by doubt. It’s no surprise then that Thomas doubted. He was not pre-sent when Jesus appeared and he just could not believe what the other Apostles were telling him. He needed to see and feel for himself if he was to have faith. When Jesus appears again, He gives Thomas what he needs to believe. We all have moments of doubt and we seek reassurance that Je-sus will give us what we need just as He gave Thomas what he needed. Jesus does not reject faith because of doubt; he rejects doubt with the fulfillment of faith. Faith stands in the present and looks to the future. Be confi-dent. Jesús se apareció de nuevo en el cenáculo, en medio de los discípulos: Tomás también estaba; se dirigió a él y lo invi-tó a tocar sus llagas. Y entonces, aquel hombre sincero, aquel hombre acostumbrado a comprobar personalmente las cosas, se arrodilló delante de Jesús y dijo: “Señor mío y Dios mío”. Las llagas de Jesús son un escándalo para la fe, pero son también la comprobación de la fe. Por eso, en el cuerpo de Cristo resucitado las llagas no desaparecen, permanecen, porque aquellas llagas son el signo permanente del amor de Dios por nosotros, y son indispensables para creer en Dios. No para creer que Dios existe, sino para creer que Dios es amor, misericordia, fidelidad. San Pedro, citando a Isaías, escribe a los cristianos: “Sus heridas nos han curado”. San Juan XXIII y san Juan Pablo II tuvieron el valor de mirar las heridas de Jesús, de tocar sus manos llagadas y su costado traspasado. No se avergonzaron de la carne de Cristo, no se escandalizaron de él, de su cruz; no se avergonzaron de la carne del hermano, porque en cada persona que sufría veían a Jesús. Fueron dos hombres valerosos, llenos de la parresia del Espíritu San-to, y dieron testimonio ante la Iglesia y el mundo de la bondad de Dios, de su misericordia.» (Homilía de S.S. Francis-co, 27 de abril de 2014). Jesús nos invita a mirar sus llagas, nos invita a tocarlas, como a Tomás, para sanar nuestra incredulidad. Trích đoạn này từ sách Công vụ cho thấy hai tác động lớn của việc Chúa Giêsu phục sinh trên các tông đồ : (1) Chúa đã thông ban cho các ngài quyền năng đến nỗi có thể làm nhiều phép lạ ; (2) Chúa làm cho uy tín các ngài tăng cao trước các tín hữu và cả những người lương.

Thị kiến đầu tiên trong sách Khải huyền: - Hoàn cảnh của người được thấy thị kiến : Thánh Gioan Tông đồ đang sống trong cảnh gian truân vì bị bắt bớ : "Tôi cùng chia xẻ nỗi gian truân… cùng kiên trì chịu đựng với anh em trong Chúa Giêsu. Lúc ấy tôi đang ở đảo gọi là Pátmô vì đã rao giảng Lời Thiên Chúa và lời chứng của Chúa Giêsu". - Thị kiến nhằm an ủi và khích lệ kẻ đang bị bắt bớ : "Đừng sợ… Ta là Đấng hằng sống. Ta đã chết và nay Ta sống đến muôn thuở muôn đời ; Ta giữ chìa khóa của Tử thần và Âm phủ"
TUNG HÔ TIN MỪNG: Ga 20, 29 Alleluia, alleluia! – Chúa phán: “Tôma, vì con đã xem thấy Thầy, nên con đã tin. Phúc cho những ai đã không thấy mà tin”. – Alleluia.

Hai lần hiện ra cách nhau 8 ngày này nhằm những mục tiêu sau: - Chúa Giêsu nâng đức tin của các một đệ lên một bậc : từ mức độ thấp là tin dựa vào bằng chứng mà giác quan kiểm nghiệm được (câu 20 "Ngài cho các ông xem tay và cạnh sườn Ngài" ; câu 25, Tôma đòi điều kiện "Nếu tôi không thấy dấu đinh ở tay Ngài, nếu tôi không xỏ ngón tay vào lỗ đinh và không đặt bàn tay vào cạnh sườn Ngài...) lên mức độ cao là tin chỉ vì nghe bởi vì mình đã an tâm về uy tín của người nói cho mình nghe (câu 29 : "Phúc cho những ai không thấy mà tin") - Chúa Giêsu ban bình an cho các môn đệ để rồi các ông lại ban bình an cho người khác qua việc tha tội. Sự bình an này là hoa trái của Thánh Thần, và đặt nền tảng trên việc tin vào Chúa Giêsu phục sinh.
Suy Niệm: Giữa cơn lo sợ bàng hoàng còn chưa nguôi; các cửa phòng còn đóng kín để tránh ánh mắt soi mói của người Do thái. Ðức Giêsu Phục Sinh bất ngờ hiện đến, mang theo bình an và Thần Khí của Ngài để làm cho các Tông Ðồ được vững mạnh
trong niềm tin. Từ cõi chết, Ðức Giêsu đã bước vào cõi trường sinh; từ tình trạng xem như thất bại, Ðức Giêsu đã chiến thắng vẻ vang. Cùng với Ðức Giêsu, từ nay người môn đệ của Ngài luôn sống trong hân hoan, bình an vì Thầy của họ đã thắng thế gian và đưa họ vào nguồn hạnh phúc vĩnh cửu.
Cầu Nguyện: Lạy Chúa Giêsu, ước gì lời chúc bình an của Chúa sẽ là nguồn trợ lực cho suốt cuộc đời chúng con. Chúng con chỉ có bình an thực sự khi tin tưởng phó thác vào Chúa. Nhờ đức tin, nhờ Lời Chúa soi dẫn, chúng con xác tín rằng Chúa luôn ở bên chúng con và nâng đỡ chúng con trong từng biến cố. Xin Chúa đến ngự giữa chúng con. Amen.

Growing up on the edge of poverty, Hector wrestled with homelessness, and was struggling to find food. While playing basketball in a local Church league, he met Fr. Paul O’Brien, who encouraged him to go to college.
Fr. Paul was there for Hector at every step of his journey to college and beyond. With his help and guidance, Hector went on to play basketball for Regis College, graduate, and now works as a school counselor to give back to students the same hope and inspiration he received.
