Humanae Vitae Fiftieth-Anniversary Programs and Resources

On July 25, 1968, Pope Paul VI issued his encyclical letter Humanae Vitae. For fifty years it has provoked profound reactions, both positive and negative, and continues to stimulate deep and intense discussion. This major piece of Catholic teaching deserves to be read and understood. The Humanae Vitae page on the archdiocesan website, sfarchdiocese.org/hv, provides abundant resources for the exploration and comprehension of the Church’s teaching on the transmission of life and the nature of marriage. Visit the page often, as new material will be added weekly during this month leading to the anniversary of publication. A few resources on the page: Complete text in English and Spanish of HV.

Also later papal documents. A series of special articles from our Catholic San

Francisco newspaper. The upcoming archdiocesan TV show Mosaic,

an episode discussing HV. Articles, reflections, interviews, and videos by

experts. Link to the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops’

HV website.

A Long Shot! Our SVDP conference has again been asked to help a family who are greatly in need of a car for their family of six. If you know of someone who might be giving up a larger car in good condition and would like to donate that car to St. Vincent de Paul (and receive a tax credit), please contact the St. Patrick’s office. This family also needs a set of bunk beds. The frames would be enough because we will purchase mattresses through the SVDP at Rohnert Park. Thank you very much.

Your Generosity Every dollar you contribute makes a significant difference in our neighbors’ lives. Because of your generosity, your St. Patrick’s Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, going in pairs to call on many wonderful people living within our parish boundaries, is able to help many people stay in their residences. We rely on your financial help; you are the only reason we have been able to help so many families. Please continue to contribute by giving as much as you can to the fifth Sunday collection for St. Vincent de Paul coming up on July 29. Please know also that we would love you to join us. You would truly enjoy being part of this very satisfying work. If you are able to do so, please give your name and email address to the parish office, and we will contact you.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Dear friends, The work in our church continues. Painters and building contractors have been very busy these past several weeks and I am confident when all is done, we will be very proud and happy with the results. Our house of worship will truly be worthy of our God who has blessed our community in so many ways. While things are progressing nicely, we did run into some unexpected challenges (and expenses), especially with the ceilings both in the nave of the church and in the stairwell leading to the choir loft. A few panels in the church ceiling had to be completely replaced due to age and water damage which was sustained prior to roof repairs last year. The ceiling in the stairwell leading to the choir loft needs to be completely replaced and insulated to protect from moisture that collects in that stairwell, especially during our rainy seasons. Below is a picture of the interior of our church during the renovation. As you can see, it is a big job. Please know that I am extremely grateful to the many parishioners who have helped to make these improvements possible. Your generosity and commitment to your parish is very much appreciated. If all continues to progress on schedule, we should be back in our newly restored church for worship the weekend of 21 July. In the meantime, thanks so much for your continued patience and understanding! Monsignor Michael Padazinski
