Readings and Reflections 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time
First Reading: Whenever I speak, I must cry out, violence and outrage is my message; the word of the LORD has brought
me derision and reproach all the day. (Jer 20:8)
Reflect: In a prayer of lamentation, Jeremiah speaks of the loneliness and isolation of answering his prophetic call. What
words of comfort would you offer Jeremiah?
Psalm: My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God. (Ps 63)
Second Reading: I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God,
your spiritual worship. (Rom 12:1)
Reflect: Paul urges fellow believers in Rome to remain focused on pleasing God. What do you find most challenging in this spiritual discipline?
Gospel: Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.” (Mt 16:24)
Reflect: Peter and Jesus have an intense exchange of words over Jesus’ revelation that as the Messiah, he will suffer and die. How often do you think
there was tension between Jesus and his 12 apostles?
A Prayer Amid an Epidemic
By Kerry Weber
Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our
aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love.
Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care.
Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another.
Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders.
Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.
Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace.
Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace.
Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in
the process. May they know your protection and peace.
Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to
serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as
they work together to achieve it on earth.
Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and
mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.
Jesus Christ, heal us.

St. Vincent DePaul is requesting St. Patrick
Co-Cathedral‘s help and assistance in
gathering, sleeping bags, blankets and
pillows for the coming winter. This may
sound like an unreasonable request with
our current hot weather, but the coming
cold and snow is inevitable. There will be an increased need
for these items from previous years due to the pandemic.
Please consider donating any useful items you may find in
your house or garage that can be used to fulfill this need.
St. Vincent DePaul will be providing donation containers at
many local parishes for your convenience. These will be
installed by September 12, 2020. Again, we thank you for
consideration and invaluable support.
The Virtual, Online Retrouvaille marriage program will start Thursday evening,
September 17th. The weekend portion will take place Thursday evening, Friday
evening, Saturday day and Sunday. The weekend will be followed by a series of virtual
Post Weekend Sessions.
Successful Worldwide Program
This is a marriage help program located in about 150 cities in more than 25 countries
around the world. It has provided the tools to help 10’s of 1000’s of marriages and
families over the last 40+ years. Some couples come to the weekend at the early signs
of difficulty. Others consider the program their last resort and come during times of deep
misery. Either way, this program will work for you if you commit to work the program.
Please contact 406-761-4830 for information or register at www.helpourmarriage.org.

Renewal Weekend Cancellation This is a very challenging time for all of us. After prayer, discernment and discussion
with members of our local secretariat we have made the decision to cancel the fall Renewal weekend that was scheduled
for September 25-27 at St. Bernard's. Our concern is for the health of everyone. We encourage you all to pray for our
community during this time, along with praying for candidates and teams for the 2021 Cum Christo weekends next June
and for the Fall Renewal in 2021. God Bless, stay healthy and happy. God has a plan.
Fundraising
You will see the inside fundraising flyer with details
