In last week’s Gospel, we heard of Jesus’ miracle of the
loaves and the fishes. His disciples and townspeople were
all present to witness Jesus power of things of this world.
A few hours later, we find the disciples out on a boat in
the Sea of Galilee and Jesus retreating to the mountain
top to pray. There is so much in these Gospel stories that
I love. I love the reminder of how Jesus is always stepping
away to pray so He can remain close to God, I love that
the disciples are witnessing back to back miracles. I love
how despite having seen Jesus perform these miracles,
Peter still doubts that God will keep him safe on the
water.
For many of us, these uncertain days have felt like one
turbulent storm after another. The winds are blowing, the
sea is raging and it is definitely making me sea sick. Just
like the disciples, I want off this boat ride!
But the lesson that I take from today’s Gospel is that
just like Peter, despite seeing and experiencing God’s love
and mercy all around me, I still question and falter. I
begin to walk toward Jesus and then I become frightened
and falter. Even though much in life seems confusing or
uncertain, what I can be certain of is God’s love. He is
always stretching His hand to us, to take us out of the
turbulent sea of our days. We need to ask ourselves, do
we trust Him enough to lead us through the storm?
May you continue to feel God’s outstretched hand this
week.
Blessings for a good week,
Tricia Cellucci
Director of Parish Services

“If I try by myself to swim across the ocean of this world, the waves will certainly engulf me. In order to
survive I must climb aboard a ship made of wood; this wood is the Cross of Christ. Of course, even on board a ship there will be dangerous tempests and perils from the sea of this world. But God will help
me remain on board the ship and arrive safely at the harbor of eternal life.”

Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
During this time of social distancing, not all of us are able
to gather for Mass or receive the Eucharist. In spite of this
separation, Jesus is still in our midst and Catholics are
encouraged to pray the following prayer as an
acknowledgment of our unity with Christ and each other.

ST. PATRICK PARISH AUGUST 09, 2020 19TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Coming in September we are offering a new formation series
called Metanoia. Every Catholic, no matter where we are in
our faith journey, is invited to a deeper conversion. Metanoia
is not a one-time event; rather, it is a continual process of
turning away from the things of the world, from lies and sin
and discovering a deeper union with Christ. Participants will
watch two segments each week and then gather to discuss their
encounter with a small group via Zoom. Registration will
begin next week. To learn more and watch a preview, visit:
