Solemnity of Mary,

The Holy Mother of God

“And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in

her heart.” - Luke 2:19

When Mary said “Yes” to the Angel Gabriel, she pondered who this infant, the Son of God, would be. Year after year she grew in knowing him and comprehending the mystery of God, incarnate in Jesus. As we begin the New Year, we celebrate Mary’s “Yes” as we ponder within our own hearts the Word of God in scripture, in each other, and in the world around us. By the time this Sunday’s gospel had taken place, Mary had been through a lot, the most recent of which is a visit by shepherds sent by angels. Scripture tells us that she “kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” While none of us will literally bring the Messiah into the world, we all have had moments where God has touched our marriages. Do we take time to “keep all these things,” or “reflect on them in our hearts?” When we fail to reflect, we can miss God’s action in our lives! Need some help building this time into your day? Try signing up for our free email retreat based on Chapter 4 of Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation, The Joy of Love. Every day for a month, you’ll receive a brief excerpt from the letter with practical insights and reflection questions. www.archkck.org/30 DayRetreat
