FORTHCOMING EVENTS
INTRODUCTION
This week, public exams started. All pupils sitting these exams are working hard to ensure they achieve the best
grades they can. This is a very stressful time for all candidates, so we must keep them in our prayers over the
coming weeks.
On Monday afternoon, two members of our staff who
deliver the school’s Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme were invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace in the
presence of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh; Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex; and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
It was a wonderful occasion. During the afternoon, the
school was presented with its Operating Licence for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The presentation was made by
Jason Atterton, a renowned chef. Prince Edward also presented 20 young people from London with their Gold
Duke of Edinburgh Award.
A reminder to parents that PREP is available to all pupils,
Monday to Thursday, 3.10pm to 7pm and Friday, 3.10pm to 4pm. Pupils are able to complete homework or extra study
with the help of staff. A free, light meal is served at 5.15pm.

WEEKLY E-PRAISE WINNERS
TRIP TO WEMBLEY
On Saturday, 14 May, the Year 7 girls’ football team visited Wembley Stadium to watch the women's FA Cup Final -
Arsenal vs. Chelsea. The girls were more than excited about the day and behaved exceptional well, representing
the school to a high standard. Their excitement grew and
their faces lit up as they stepped out of Wembley Park Station and saw the mighty stadium. They cheered for the
whole 90 minutes and the majority of the team were delighted that Arsenal came out as winners, although some
were not so happy!
Quotes from the girls:
"It was fun and a great experience because it was the first
time I had watched a professional football match". Kechell Dalton (7MC1)
"One of the best days I've ever had! It was a great experience and I got to know my friends and teachers a lot
better too". Christina Mikeli (7MC1)
"One of the most interesting experiences I have had!" Channelle Thomas (7MC1)
"One of the best experiences there could be!" Agnieszka Jaworska (7MC1)

RE DEPARTMENT’S REFLECTION
Pentecost, 15 May At Pentecost, we celebrate the
occasion when the Holy Spirit came down upon the Apostles and gave
them the gifts they needed to carry
on the work of Jesus after he had ascended into heaven. We can see
how powerful and effective this was by the accounts of what the apostles did in the early life of the Church. We
too have received the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments and continue to receive these graces, enabling us to do
God’s work and to be embraced in his love in all the
activities we undertake.
Prayer of the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit come into our
lives open our ears to hear what you are saying to us in
the things that happen to us. In the people we meet.
Open our eyes to see the needs of the people around
us.
Open our hands to do our work well, to help when help is needed.
Open our lips to tell others the Good News of Jesus. To bring comfort, happiness and laughter to other people.
Open our minds to discover new truth about You and the
world. Open our hearts to love you and our fellow men and
women. As you have loved us in Jesus. To you with our Father and the Son, on God, all honour
and praise shall be given now and for ever.
Amen
THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK Monday: “Good things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are patient and the best things
come to those who don’t give up”.
Tuesday: Always end the day with a positive thought, no
matter how hard things were. Tomorrow’s a fresh opportunity to make them better”.
Wednesday: “Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we’re imperfect, he loves us
perfectly. Though we may feel lost and without compass, God’s love encompasses us completely”.
Thursday: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again”.
Friday: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.
DRAMA
This week, Eastenders’ star Ellen Thomas, who plays Claudette Hubbard, paid a visit to the Drama Department.
She worked with our Year 9 pupils who are currently devising performances for the Rudolph Walker
Inter-School's Drama Competition. Ellen was so impressed
with the pupils’ work, she has agreed to come back and mentor them as they prepare for the competition which
takes place on 3rd July at the Royal Theatre.
Also this week, a group of Year 7 and 8 pupils attended a drama and circus skills workshop with Jackson Lane Arts
Centre. The sessions take place every Wednesday at Sky
City Community Centre and any pupil interested in finding out more information about the workshops should speak to
Mrs Rosen or Miss Gibb.
