ST. NICHOLAS PARISH
October 27, 2019 Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners,
This week we hear Jesus challenging us about our prayer. Our challenge is to be humble and to recognize that we need God in our lives. Once again Jesus’ message is directed at the Scribes and the Pharisees specifically. They present themselves as being better than others but Jesus knows their heart is not pure and He wants to open their eyes and hearts to being more humble. In the example of the two men praying, Jesus points out that the tax collector is very humble and bows his head as he acknowledges that he is a sinner and he needs God’s mercy and confession, while the Pharisee is arrogant and righteous in his prayer. We all need to be humble like the tax collector because, like him, we are all sinners and need God’s mercy. God loves us and knows our faults and what is in our hearts; therefore, we should approach Him with humility. This coming Friday is All Saints Day and it is a Holy Day of Obligation. Please refer to the bulletin for our Mass times on Thursday afternoon and Friday. Saturday Nov. 2th is All Souls day. This is a day to remember our loved ones who have gone before us to receive their eternal reward. Mass will be celebrated at all of our Catholic Cemeteries on that day at 10:00 a.m. We will also have our annual Mass of Remembrance to pray for all of those from our parish who have died in this last year. This Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2nd, at 9:00 a.m. Please pray for all the dead throughout the month of November.
