A Time to Rest We have recently felt a small touch of spring. There have been a few warm days, the trees are budding and spring flowers blooming. In Ecclesiastes 3:1 we read :
‘There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.’ God has planned creation to work with a certain rhythm, designed to keep everything in balance. In nature, he has created seasons. While we may hate the wet and cold weather, it is essential to having a beautiful spring where flowers bloom, grass grows and new life emerges. Without the winter rains and cold weather, spring would be fairly dismal. Our lives have similar seasons. While we don’t particularly enjoy having to go through the tough stuff of life, God promises to make even this ‘beautiful’ in its own time. Christians certainly are not promised that life will be easy or that by trusting God, they will be trouble free. But we can trust that the rhythm God has planned for our lives includes a time for happiness and joy; and that even the tough stuff has a purpose. Are you going through a season in your life right now that is not so beautiful? Know that God has got you and trust that he can make something good from the bad. Spring will come. Blessings for a safe holiday break. Terri Taylor Principal

Spring School Holidays What an amazing gift the break from the routine of school is. A chance to slow a little and ‘smell the roses’! A chance to learn and grow, away from school. If you are looking for some ideas the Nature Play SA website has a number of downloads that may inspire you to get out and about with your children.
https://natureplaysa.org.au/families/nature-play-downloads/ If you have the flexibility, providing some options for the children to plan a
day or two themselves may be something that you would like to try.
Planning and organising food, travel and activities within a budget offers an
opportunity for them to learn the life skills that as adults we use on a daily
basis.
Are there opportunities for you to spend time putting into action some
learning that the students have done this term/year? Perhaps an
opportunity to upcycle some objects (MLC); get out into the community and
acknowledge the people who help us (BLC & SLC); produce something and
talk about the process that it is going through (JLC); take some action to
make a change for our environment or community (MLC).
While much learning happens here at school, as teachers we acknowledge
that there is much that must and does happen away from here as well. Let’s
continue to partner as we wonder, challenge, explore and discover with the
children here at St Michael’s for now and into the future.
Happy adventuring and many blessings for the break,
Evie Stevens PYP/Curriculum coordinator

Uniform Term 4 Term 4 is summer uniform! As the weather can still be unpredictable, we allow students to wear a mix of summer or winter uniform during the first 2 weeks of the term. After that time, it is expected that all students wear the correct summer uniform. A reminder that hats are compulsory from the first day of Term 4. HAIR! Many of our students, both boys and girls, have grown their hair during the winter months. Students and families are reminded that hair which is longer than shoulder length should be tied up and hair should be tied back from the face, if necessary. This requirement applies to both boys and girls. Please see our uniform policy for further details. https://www.stmichaels.sa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/School-Uniform-2018.pdf
180 years of Education – it is time for a celebration!

The Hahndorf Creek Restoration Project We have realised that restoring something that has deteriorated as badly as the Hahndorf Creek, takes time. While it may not seem like a lot has been happening this year, there has actually been quite a bit going on behind the scenes. The first step in the process was to remove the non-native trees and feral plants in the creek bed and along the bank. Included in this was the job of removing the weeds, such as blackberries and ivy, which had totally taken over the creek. A fence was constructed to provide safe access for our students and allow space for a future walking path to be created along the creek’s edge. Then came the waiting. In order to ensure the weeds were fully controlled and our plants had the best chance of survival, we needed to wait for weather which was warm enough for plants to get a good start, and for the ground to be nicely saturated with winter rains. Finally, last week our students worked together to plant 120 trees, shrubs and sedges along the creek line. Now that the blackberry bushes are gone, there was also the opportunity for students to get into the creek to collect rubbish. While there, we spotted frogs, water organisms and birdlife. We finally got to see some of the potential of the creek as an environmental learning space for our students. Thanks to the National Landcare Grant, we have been able to achieve significant progress in the past 12 months. In addition, we have received a Natural Resource Management Grant to purchase and install bird and possum boxes along the creek, along with motion sensing cameras. These will be installed shortly and allow us to see what effect the improvements to our creek have on the wildlife in our area. The school has just applied for another grant and, if successful, will continue to fence, weed and replant the rest of the creek line.
EXPLORE “We only know a tiny proportion about the complexity of the natural world. Wherever you look, there are things
we don’t know about and don’t understand. There are always new things to find out if you go looking for them”
