May 4, 2020 Dear Parishioners of St. Michael’s and Sts. Cyril & Methodius,

I am so excited to share this news from Cardinal DiNardo! We can begin celebrating the Holy Eucharist PUBLICLY again with LIMITATIONS for those who wish to attend at St. Michael’s and Sts. Cyril & Methodius effective this week! However, there is NO obligation to attend Mass in our Archdiocese. Our mass schedule remains the same, with the temporary addition of a Sat-urday evening mass at Sts. Cyril & Methodius. All masses will be held in the Church.

St. Michael’s: Sts. Cyril & Methodius: Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at 7:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. Thursday & Friday at 8:00 a.m. As part of Phase 1 of our parishes reopening, I have listed the major limitations on mass attendance below. This information and any follow-up communications will be available on the website and through St. Michael’s social media. For now, we are only allowed a maximum of 25% of the church seating capacity at each Mass. The real limitation will be that we are still to maintain the social distancing of 6 feet from each other, except family members in the same household. For both parishes, that equates to 100 seats per Mass. Seating will be on a first come, first served basis so PLEASE do not be offended if you are turned away because we have met the capacity. Entrance doors will open 30 minutes prior to mass time. At the 25% capacity limit that should leave plenty of time to enter the Church. DO NOT come early to stand in line. We must observe the re-strictions. It is also especially important that we are not congregating in small groups outside the church before and after Mass in the Church, outside on the porch or lawn area. • Make sure you enter the Church using the side door (handicap entrance) at St. Michael’s and the main doors at Sts. Cyril

& Methodius. All other doors will remain closed. • For ages 10 and up, face coverings are required for the duration of Mass. No mask, no Mass! I also encourage you to

bring your own sanitizer that fits your skin type to use before communion. DO NOT bring items that contain bleach into the sanctuary as this will damage the pews.

• Collection plates will not be passed during the offertory. Your will be able to place your weekly gift in a basket as you enter and exit the church. We strongly encourage online giving.

• Cardinal DiNardo has mandated that Holy Communion is not offered on the tongue under any circumstance for the time being. Please understand this is only temporary.

• Communion will be distributed by the Priest only after the final mass blessing. There will be a single communion line in the center of the main aisle. Mask should be worn in the communion line. After the priest offers you Holy Communion, please step to the mark on the side, lift or remove your mask, consume the Most Holy Eucharist and re-mask before exiting the church. DO NOT take the host back to your pew to consume!

• You must exit your pew when prompted. Private prayer is not allowed after Masses to allow the church to be prepared for the next Mass. If you are unable to walk to the front for communion, please remain seated and Father will come to you.

• Clergy is unable to shake hands. Clergy will wave. Please DO NOT congregate outside but head directly to your vehicle. Those of you who are at a higher risk due to age or immune system vulnerabilities or are living with people with such risks are strongly encouraged to stay home. Parishioners who are ill or living with people who are ill MUST stay home. It is for every-one’s safety. Remember, we are not out of danger. If you cannot comply with these limitations, please stay home. I know these are unusual and difficult times but let us have patience and understanding and do what we are asked, not for our convenience and comfort but for the good health and safety of all! FAITH FORMATION CLASSES All Faith Formation Classes are suspended until further notice. The students are to be homeschooled. Lesson plans are emailed to parents each week. For students in sacramental classes, you may pick up your book from the ushers table during normal office hours. Contact us if you are not receiving emails. First Communion: has been postponed until Sat., June 27, 2020. It will be during the 5:30 p.m. Mass.

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP Due to the increased demand brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the food pan-try needs your help. On Saturday, May 9th from 9 a.m. to noon, volunteers from the Needville Harvest Fest and the Needville Lions Club will be taking donations at the rear parking lot of Immanuel Evangelical Church. Items needed are non-perishable food items along with hygiene, health and cleaning supplies.

Wow! Can you believe all of the crazy things going on in our world? I hope everyone is doing O.K. in spite of it. We are having our bazaar in less than 5 months or are we? I think the final decision cannot be made until we are somewhat back to normal and that decision will need to be made by the congregation. I do not know how many members of our parish have been affected by the coronavirus and to what extent. For right now, we will put the bazaar on pause. We will not proceed with the raffle at this time. I want you to continue to prepare for the bazaar in some way — purchasing items that are a great deal for the different booths and auctions, making crafts for the Homemaker’s Mart, and such. When we are able to get together again, WE will have a meeting so WE can make the final determination based on what restrictions might still be in place and our parish situation. Old Hardwood Flooring Available for Keepsake As you know the renovations to the Sts. Cyril & Methodius “Old Church” are underway. It is sad that we could not save the old hard-wood flooring. As a memorial or if you would like a piece of the origi-nal flooring to make a keepsake, please call Rich Mills at (979) 345-6710. We have salvaged some of the wood for this purpose.

VBS CANCELLED It saddens us deeply to convey this to all of you, but in light of the present circumstances and the uncertainty that not only persists, but seems to grow almost daily, the decision has been made to cancel VBS for this summer. As you can well imagine, the decision was a difficult one to

make especially this far out, but with the continued concern over large gatherings and, frankly, a growing concern over parish resources with the suspension of weekly offerings, this decision is the prudent call. While we all hope for a re-turn to business as usual in the coming months, it appears that we will be faced with a new normal for the foreseeable future. Be assured that Rocky Railway will be geared up and ready

to roll down the tracks in the summer of 2021!

Our proposed dates for next summer are June 14-18, 2021
