“Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed...He told

them, ’Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I

come.” — Mark 1:35, 38

In today’s Gospel reading we see a perfect example of stewardship. Jesus gives His time to

do all that God wishes - healing the sick and preaching. But before He begins, Jesus makes

time to be alone with God in prayer. It is through prayer, spending time with God, that we find the strength to do what He

wishes us to do. Be sure to find time every day to be with God.

Second Collection This Weekend Ash Wednesday, February 17th

This year ashes will not be imposed on the forehead in the manner to which we are accus-tomed in the United States. On January 17, 2021, the Holy See published a directive (cf. Prot. N. 17/21) that on Ash Wednesday the celebrant will impose ashes

by sprinkling. The celebrant blesses the ashes in the manner set forth in the Roman Missal, and then stand-ing before the people he says only once the formula as it appears in the Roman Missal, applying it to all in general: “Repent, and believe in the Gospel”, or “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return” and after proper protocol imposes those present by sprinkling a pinch of ashes on the crown of each person’s head, saying nothing.
