ST. MATTHEW’S GOOD NEWS UPDATE
December 18, 2016
The CWM classes decorated their doors for Christmas. All of them were beautiful, making for a tough decision
for the judges. Results are below. If you haven’t already, be sure to walk around after worship service/Sunday
school to get the full view.
1st Place - Fireflies 2nd Place - Eagles 3rd Place - Pandas
Last Saturday the CWM performed “The Christmas
Story” for family and friends. Word has it the Fel-
lowship Hall was filled to capacity. Glory to God!

Do you know the meaning of the Fourth Sunday in Advent?
During the Advent season, we focus on the four virtues Jesus brings
us. Today, the fourth Sunday in this Advent season, we train our
thoughts on LOVE. God sent his only son to earth to save us, because
he loves us!
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without ex-
pecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you
will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrate-
ful and wicked. ~ Luke 6:35
“Souper” Luncheon for Super Teachers
Because of the enthusiastic reception of this year’s “Souper” Luncheon, the St. Matthew’s
Durham Appreciation Committee will host another one on Friday, January 20, 2017. At the
previous luncheon, four crockpots of different homemade soups were served, as well as sal-
ad and donated bakery breads. Not one bite of soup was left! This year we hope to in-
crease the number of soups.
Please consider joining this gesture of appreciation for the hard-working teachers and mark
January 20, 2017 on your calendar. To volunteer, please contact Janet Barnard at 281-881-
9364 or [email protected].
The Lydia Circle held their
Christmas luncheon last Sat-
urday at Logan’s Roadhouse.
There’s nothing better than
sharing good food with good
people. (Johnny was the
special guest and blessed
the group with a prayer.)
Last Sunday was the
Birthday Party for
Jesus! What a fun
event this is. Ms. Nell
read a book to the
children, then they
went to ten different
craft stations and had
a blast making deco-
rations to take home.
Refreshments were
refreshing and the
rich, chocolate birth-
day cake was deli-
cious!
Thanks to all who provide pictures to the church office. Don’t
you love to see who’s going to show up in them? Remember to
always smile because you may show up in our “candid camera” one
of these days! Keep the pictures coming!!
Thank you to the following folks who took time out of their busy
schedules to help office staff get ready for and resume business
with brand new carpet: Tom Blummer, Colleen Roberts, Jann
Morton, Bryan Porter, Miles Woodward, Stoney Stoneburner,
Denis and Joyce Rivette, Tommy Alves, Herb Chelton, and Fred-
dy Wall. Apologies to anyone whose name was missed.
“The Son of God be-
came a man to enable
men to become sons of
God.” ~ C. S. Lewis
“Somehow, not only for
Christmas, but all the
long year through, the
joy that you give to
others, is the joy that
comes back to you.”
~ John G. Whittier
