Cardinal Pell has been a friend and brother priest of Archbishop Hart for more than 50 years. The Archbishop is conscious of the Cardinal’s many good works which have been acknowledged both nationally and internationally. It is a matter of public record that Cardinal Pell addressed the evil of sexual abuse in the Church on becoming Archbishop of Melbourne in 1996. It is important all in society recognise that the presumption of inno- cence applies and that Cardinal Pell like all Australians is entitled to a fair trial. In the interests of fairness and due process Archbishop Hart will not be commenting further. ********************************************** The Dandenong Deanery MANAGING CONFLICT What? You cannot stand neutral from it, either you respond and let it go to work in you, or you refuse it, and thereby cease to grow or die a little. This word of God is empowering, strengthening, consoling, forgiving, missionary, crea- tive. It is everything that Jesus is, since he is the Word of God. The Word is an event, not writing on a page, and therefore it must be proclaimed. In this procla- mation God is present and active, saying something. The word must be able to be heard and responded to. This means it has to be heard physically (a good clear reader is essential) and environmentally (within its historical and cultural context) so that it can be heard as God Speaking.
