A Note from Your Pastor My Dear Friends, As a result of a dismal collection due to inclement weather the weekend of January 19-20, and all the high cost of heating, sanding and snow removal, we were unable to cover payroll the week of January 27th. We needed to borrow $7,000 from our very small savings account. If we continue to need to do this we will have no reserve very soon. Both during the winter (weather and high expenses) and during the summer (low attendance) we often have a cash flow problem. Please, please make up your contributions when you are unable
to be here. Or, even better please sign up for automatic
payments either through your bank (which is most beneficial to
us) or through “WeShare”. If you find it embarrassing not to put
an envelope in the basket, we will provide cards in the vestibule
saying “I give electronically” to put into the basket.
Blessings,
Fr. Tim

St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus News Two weeks ago, the NE Patriots earned their sixth Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LIII. The Lombardi Trophy is named after Vince Lombardi who was also a Fourth Degree Knight. Did you know that
he spent two years in seminary, studied law at Fordham University, and taught Latin, algebra and physics at St. Cecilia’s, a Catholic High School in New Jersey before coaching football at West Point? In 1958, Lombardi became the coach of the Green Bay Packers. When on the road he brought his Catholic players to Mass. The Knights will again serve their famous Baked HADDOCK Dinner of Friday, March 8 from 6-8 PM in the Parish Hall. Tickets are available at the Knights kiosk. Please sign up even if paying at the door to assist us with meal planning. If you would like to know more about the Knights of Columbus, we’d like to meet you and invite you to join us. For more information, please contact Ted Del Donno at 508-523-9272 or check out our ministry on our parish webswww.stmarysjeff.com.
HELP WANTED We are in need of people who are already a Eucharistic Minister and are willing to become Sacristans. A sacristan would assist in preparing the church for weekend Masses. Organizes ministers of the altar and checks to be sure everything is ready for Mass; afterwards, makes sure everything is put away. If you think you might be interested, please call the office and speak to Cathy at 508-829-4508.
The flooring for our Parish Center Classrooms has been picked out,
however, due to a delay caused by the manufacturer, the floor will be installed in
March. We are grateful to the Capital Improvement Committee for their
diligent research to find what flooring would be best for the space and for doing some comparative shopping to find a
recommended supplier/installer at a fair price. We are also grateful to all those who have donated to the Memory Fund in
memory of loved ones, our Thursday morning faith sharing group and a generous parishioner for making the completion of
this project possible at this time.
Bereavement Support Group Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish will hold a six-session Bereavement Support Group beginning, Monday March 4, from 1:00—2:30 pm in the Parish Hall, 111 Worcester Street, West Boylston. The faith based program offers insights about grieving in a healthy way to work toward healing. For more information or to register (registration is required) call Renate Isbell at (508)853-3286.

Today’s readings speak of an essential
quality for the Christian steward — hope.
According to the Catechism of the Cath-
olic Church, “Hope is the
theological virtue by which we desire the
kingdom of heaven and eternal life as our
happiness, placing our trust in Christ’s
promises and relying not on our own strength but on the help of
the grace of the Holy Spirit (CCC 1817).” In many ways this is
the very definition of a stewardship way of life — focusing on
eternity as we live our daily lives and relying on God to provide
for our needs and satisfy our deepest longings for meaning and
happiness right now. In today’s Gospel from Luke, Jesus
describes the true richness of life that is possible for those of us
who are willing to live as his hope-filled disciples. We are all
familiar with this passage in which Jesus reveals the Beatitudes:
blessed are the poor; they have the kingdom of God. Blessed are
those now hungry because they will be satisfied. Blessed are those
who weep because they will laugh. Blessed are those who are
hated, excluded and insulted because they are disciples of Jesus;
they will be greatly rewarded in heaven. Jesus is describing here
the character of one who is living a life of hope –the life of a
Christian steward whose trust is firmly rooted in God and who is
focused on others and eternity. It is not always an easy life, but it
is a deeply meaningful life and one that leads to eternal reward.
