Parish Food Collection: This will take place on February 27th and 28th. This month our food collection will be donated to Salvation Army in Passaic. They have been giving out food since the pandemic and before. There is now a greater call for it. Thank you for your fervent support.

Lenten Season: This season will begin on February 17th starting with Ash Wednesday. “Yet even now, say the LORD, return to me with your whole heart.” Joel 2:12

Lenten Monetary Offering: This will take place during Lent. The purpose is to offer the LORD a $ 1.00 a day. This is only an invitation to all. Ash Wednes- day: Ash imposi-tion in times of pandemic. Say the prayer of blessing on the ashes and after sprinkling them, without saying anything, with the holy water, the priest addresses those present, saying once for all the formula of the Roman Missal: “Convert and be-lieve in the Gospel”, or : “Remember that you are dust and to dust you will return.” Afterwards, the priest cleans his hands and puts on the mask to protect nose and mouth, then he imposes the ash on all who approach him or, if opportune, he reaches out to all who are standing in his place. The priest takes the ash and he drops it on each one’s head, without saying anything.

El consejo pastoral determinó que el vía crucis que se realiza durante la cuares-ma ya no será los jueves sino los viernes a las 7:00 p.m. y será bilin-güe.

Un Mensaje del Santo Padre,

Papa Francisco Miércoles de Ceniza: Imposición de cenizas en tiem-pos de pandemia.

Pronunciar la oración de bendición de las cenizas y después de asperjarlas, sin decir nada, con el agua bendita, el sacerdote se dirige a los presentes, diciendo una sola vez para todos la fórmula del Misal Romano: “Conviértete y cree en el Evangelio”, o bien: “Acuérdate que eres polvo y en polvo volverás".

Después, el sacerdote se limpia las manos y se pone

la mascarilla para proteger la nariz y la boca, después impone la ceniza a cuantos se acercan a él o, si es oportuno, se acerca a cuantos están de pie en su lugar. El sacerdote toma la ceniza y la deja caer sobre la cabeza de cada uno, sin decir nada.

ORACION POR LOS ENFERMOS Oh amabilísima Virgen de Lourdes! Sagrada figura celestial que con tu Magnífico líquido cura todo lo terrenal. Amada señora mía, fiel auxiliadora de los Enfermos y de los que ya hemos perdido todas nues-tras fuerzas. Hoy, con un profundo sentimiento de devoción, Yo te alabo y te glorifico Virgen de Lourdes para pe-dir Por aquello que tú sola puedes obsequiar. IN THE MONTH OF THE AFRICAN AMERICAN

IN THE BEATITUDES, Christ teaches us the meek and the merciful are blessed. Also blessed are those who suffer in the name of what is right and just: “Blessed are they who are perse-cuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” That persecution for righteousness sake sometimes comes from other people and other times even from the government. From ancient philosophers, to St. Thomas Aquinas to modern citizen, individu-als have regularly had to wrestle with the conflict between what is right and what is legal. Faithful and courageous individuals have chosen to face the consequence of their refusal to obey or even actively rest-unjust laws. In the United States, the evil of slavery was formally ended by the 13th Amendment. Jim Crow laws in the South, however, prevented legal equali-ty for African American while custom prevented social equality. Even after Supreme Court decisions striking down segregation in public schools, laws requiring segregated public facil-ities remained in place in many states. Martin Luther King, Jr. emerging as a civil rights leader in Alabama relied on a non-violent approach to awaken the consciences of those who enforced unjust laws, or who allowed them to persist by their silence. King and others faced ridicule, police brutality, an imprisonment. But King explained that non-violent resistance was a means to an end: love and reconciliation. In this lesson, students explore King’s defini-tion of non-violent resistance; analyze it in light of Catholic teaching, and evaluate whether such an approach was justified during the Civil Rights Movement.

The Story of Our Lady of Lourdes On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX proclaimed the dog-ma of the Immaculate Conception in the apostolic consti-tution Ineffabilis Deus. A little more than three years lat-er, on February 11, 1858, a young lady appeared to Berna-dette Soubirous. This began a series of visions. During the apparition on March 25, the lady identified herself with the words: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Bernadette was a sickly child of poor parents. Their practice of the Catholic faith was scarcely more than lukewarm. Berna-

dette could pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Creed. She also knew the prayer of the Miraculous Medal: “O Mary conceived without sin.” During interro-gations Bernadette gave an account of what she saw. It was “something white in the shape of a girl.” She used the word aquero, a dialect term meaning “this thing.” It was “a pretty young girl with a rosary over her arm.” Her white robe was encir-cled by a blue girdle. She wore a white veil. There was a yellow rose on each foot. A rosary was in her hand. Bernadette was also impressed by the fact that the lady did not use the informal form of address (tu), but the polite form (vous). The humble virgin appeared to a humble girl and treated her with dignity. Through that hum-ble girl, Mary revitalized and continues to revitalize the faith of millions of people. People began to flock to Lourdes from other parts of France and from all over the world. In 1862 Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions and authorized the cult of Our Lady of Lourdes for the diocese. The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes became worldwide in 1907.
