Pastor’s Corner

Probably many of you have seen or at least heard of the video released last week by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) in which a top Planned Parenthood official, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, casually discusses the harvesting and selling of baby body parts as a byproduct of surgical abortion. As repulsive as this sounds, what was more astounding was she non-chalantly described how to extract these organs without damaging them between sips of wine and eating salad. CMP undertook a three year investigation into the alleged sale of baby body parts from abortion. They released two videos one lasting about eight minutes and the other about three hours. I watched about two minutes of the shorter video before shutting it off; it was all I could take. The complete indifference of the doctor to the dignity of human life shows how desensitized she has become through her association and work in the abortion industry. If this had been done to a puppy instead of a human being she would have been arrested for cruelty to animals. The president of Planned Parenthood, Cecile Richards, denied profits were made from “tissue donations” and she apologized for the tone and statements made by Dr. Nucatola. Notice the shift in terminology from specific body parts to “tissue donations” as if all that is at stake is a mass of tissue. This is the lie that so many women who have procured an abortion have been told over the years. A lie Dr. Nucatola clearly refutes when she described how she retrieves specific organs without damaging them. The advancement in ultrasound technology also refutes this claim of a mass of tissue and can clearly show the developmental stages of a human embryo and fetus. CMP plans to release more videos refuting Richard’s claim that Planned Parenthood does not profit from the sale of body parts from abortions, which is illegal under federal law. Every now and then the lid is pulled back from this governmental-sanctioned and supported evil in our midst, like the case of the late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who was brought to trial in Philadelphia in 2013, and we are able to see things as they are without all the justification and double-speak that usually transpires. As Mother Teresa said years ago, we will never know peace as a nation as long as the injustice of abortion is the law of our land. It is not just the abortionists who become de-sensitized to the dignity and sacredness of life, but legalized abortion affects each and every one of us. Abortion is at the heart of the culture of death so prevalent in society today. It has paved the way for the euthanasia movement spreading throughout the country and which was narrowly defeated in Massachu-setts a couple of years ago. Its practice has justified embryonic stem cell research; the destroying of nascent human life for supposed medical purposes, which implies one life is more important than another. The good news from the release of this video has been the reaction of the American public who are justifiably horrified at these revelations. For years public opinion has become more and more pro-life, especially among our young people. We must continue to promote life and the dignity of the human person. We also must continue to reach out to women, of-ten victims themselves of this evil, giving them the information and options they need so they can give life rather than end it. We must never give up for the Lord is with us and one day we will remove this scourge from our land so that we can build a true culture of life.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Fr. Cannon

“SHARE THE FAITH” Summer Reading Program

Fr. Cannon and PPC members have put together some summer reading suggestions for your perusal. A unani-mous PPC favorite is "The Joy of The Gospel" by Pope Francis. Written with warmth and enthusiasm by the Holy Father, it is full of wisdom, inspiration and even practical advice! On page 1, he writes: "I invite all Christians, every-where, at this moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ, or at least an openness to letting Him encounter them.”

We hope you'll accept the Pope's invitation this summer to refresh your spirit and renew your faith. Start with "The Joy of the Gospel" or choose one of the books recom-mended on the lists. We've even put a "borrow" basket in the Church entrance. Take one, read it and bring it back or pass it on. Add one of your own and help us share the faith!

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1ST IS FIRST SAT-URDAY. Our Lady of Fatima asked us to make the First Saturday Communion of Repa-ration to her Immaculate Heart. Her promise: "I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five con-

secutive months shall confess, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the rosary, and keep me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the rosary, with the intention on making reparation to me.”

Our Lord said: "The souls who make the Five First Saturdays with fervor and to make reparation to the Heart of your Heav-enly Mother please me...."

“It is a great mistake to think that only priests and religious and those who have withdrawn from the turmoil of the world are supposed to meditate upon the truths of our Faith and the mysteries of the life of Jesus Christ. If priests and religious have an obligation to meditate on the great truths of our holy religion in order to live up to their vocation worthily, the same obligation, then, is just as much incumbent upon the laity – because of the fact that every day they meet with spiritual dangers which might make them lose their souls. Therefore they should arm themselves with the frequent meditation on the life, virtues and sufferings of Our Blessed Lord – which are so beauti-fully contained in the mysteries of the Holy Rosary.” (From The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis De Montfort)

FIRST SATURDAY ROSARY - Come pray Saturday, August 1st. We will be praying the Rosary at 4:00 p.m. in the main church in front of our Blessed Mother. Our prayer intentions will be for Peace and Conversion of

Hearts. For all those new to the rosary we will provide prayer cards and rosary beads. For more information con-tact Jane Kuklis: [email protected] or 781-545-3335 x 212.

WANT YOUR FAITH TO GROW? THEN SHARE IT! BE A TEACHER IN ST. MARY’S RELIGIOUS ED PROGRAM - Passing on the faith to our youth is one of Christ’s most important invitations. It is a serious call. It takes commit-ment. But it yields untold blessings. This is not a time for “comfortable Catholicism,” nor a time to be lukewarm. It is a time to be a witness. Pray about it. Then call us if you want to know more (781) 545-3335.
