Pastoral Message
Dear Parishioners,
I just love this time of year! And every year I promise myself that
I’m not going to miss the beauty of the fall colors. Every year it
seems like I miss them. Before you know it, it’s November and all the leaves have already fallen. Why do
I miss the colors? I’m often too busy to take the time to really notice them. This is like life. There are so
many beautiful things happening right in front of us during this short time we have on earth. We often
miss them. We shouldn’t. Take the time this fall to bring your family or your friends out to enjoy the fall
colors. Don’t miss them. And don’t miss the beautiful things that God puts in our lives every day.
The picture below is taken of the new trees planted on the south property line of our cemetery
expansion. We want to thank the town of Greenville and our neighbors for help in completing this
project. We are waiting for a little more grass to come in before we remove the erosion control barriers
and start officially using the space. We thank especially the cemetery committee, Baumgart
Landscaping, Mike and Teresa Griesmeyer and all the volunteers who donated time and equipment to
complete the project. A special thanks goes out to all the parishioners who sponsored a tree and one
family who sponsored the transplanting cost of the trees. This expansion will cover the next 50 years of
burials!
A note about our parish meeting: every corporation by law is required to have an annual meeting where
those invested in the corporation can come and hear how things are going and ask questions. This is
especially important for a non-profit
corporation. This year’s parish annual
meeting will be Thursday, September 23rd
immediately following the 6:00pm Mass.
Following the short annual meeting, we are
planning to conduct a parish town hall
meeting regarding the future of St. Mary’s
especially in regard to our building space.
Please attend if you can. We will
livestream and record the meeting in case
some may not be able to be present for any
reason. That link will be available on the
website.
In Christ,

Weekly Stewardship Thought
Have you known that person? The one who
leaves every person they encounter feeling a
little more blessed for having met them? They’re
the friend you can count on when nothing is
going well. They’re the one who’s always “doing”
for others. They’re never gossiping or sniping or
complaining.
We wonder how they do it, how they have it in
them. We’re a little envious, even if we don’t let
ourselves acknowledge it.
That, folks, is what the view is like from the
front of the line, gazing at those suckers in the
way back and wondering why they’re smiling so
much.
We’ve all been at the front of a line and felt no
shame about it. We show up early, we put in the
time and the legwork, and we “earn” whatever it
is we came for—sports tickets, the latest Apple
product, whatever. That’s how it works here on
Earth, where the fastest win the race, the fittest
survive and the first shall be first, always.
It’s exactly why stewardship is such a tall order.
Stewardship calls us to play by the rules of
another kingdom—one where the richest have
the least amount in their bank accounts and the
happiest don’t seem to have anything to show
for it, at least materially.
If you have a person in your life who always
seems happy “doing” for others, it’s because by a
boatload of God’s grace, they play by the rules of
the other place.
Watch and take notes—and don’t be afraid to
join them at the back of the line.

They say, You say:
A dialogue on Abortion
“Pro-Abortion” (PA) vs. Pro-Life (PL)
PA: If abortion is legal, women won’t die
through unsafe, illegal abortions.
PL: Women still die in legal abortions.
According to the CDC, since it was
legalized nearly 500 women have died in
the U.S. alone.

Wellness Seminar Part II
Nicole Fannin will be giving a “Part II” talk on nutrition and health this
weekend after the 10am Mass on Sunday. Based on questions and interest
from the first mini-seminar, this class will provide more information on
health supplements. We look forward to having you!
Parking on Wednesday Mornings
For those who come to daily Mass on Wednesdays and stay after/come for
adoration after Mass, if the front church parking lot is full, we ask that
you please park along the edge of the cemetery rather than fill the back lot.
Our school children use the back parking lot during recess breaks! If you
have any questions, you may call the parish office.
In Sympathy
Prayers and sympathy are offered for the family and friends
of Jeremy Hoffman who was called home to the Lord.
May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in
peace.

“If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all.” Taking a child, he placed it
in the their midst, and putting his arms around it, he said to them, “Whoever receives one child such as
this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.”

How to Go to Confession

Reconciliation may be face to face or anonymous, with a
screen between you and the priest. Choose the option that
is the most comfortable for you.

1. The priest gives you a blessing or greeting. He may
share a brief Scripture passage.
2. Make the Sign of the Cross and say: “Bless me father,
for I have sinned. My last confession was (give the
number of weeks, months or years).
3. Confess all of your sins to the priest. The priest will
help you to make a good confession. If you are unsure
about how to confess or you feel uneasy, just ask him
to help you. Answer his questions without hiding
anything out of fear or shame. Place your trust in God,
a merciful Father who wants to forgive you.
4. Following your confession of sins, say, “I am sorry for
these and all of my sins.”
5. The priest assigns you a penance and offers advice to
help you be a better Catholic.
6. Say an Act of Contrition, expressing your sorrow for
your sins. The priest, acting in the person of Christ,
then absolves you from your sins

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In
choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned
against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly
intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to
avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.
