Dear parish family, 32 Sunday B The Confirmation Mass last Sunday was the best we had in years. Cardinal DiNardo was happy that the candidates responded well enough. This year’s Confirmation batch is indeed a great group. We are thankful for their teachers especially Jessica & Shari, the Life Teen team and volunteer workers who prepared them. I am proud of them and made me happy that this time the Cardinal was so pleased with everything at our Confirmation. Hope this will always be like this every year. We hear once again the familiar story of the “widow’s mite” in this Sunday’s gospel. We are reminded that Jesus is “watching” those giving money in the Temple treasury. And he was not impressed by those who gave big amounts out of their surplus but the widow who had given a little amount caught his attention because, out of her poverty, she gave all that she has. The difference lies in heart, the motive, and the capacity to give out love. Jesus doesn’t care for the amount money given, but for the amount of love. When we love, we do not give out of surplus rather our very selves to support the one we love. In terms of giving money, for the Lord Jesus it is not about the quantity of what is given rather it is the quality of the heart that gives. The truth is when we love and when we give out of love, we just feel good about giving and that we have that something to give, the amount becomes irrelevant. When we give money to the church – it is not a “tip” like we do in restaurants, it is tithe, it is our tribute to the Lord God who gives us life and blesses us. But our tribute to the Lord is not only in terms of money but also our service of time and talents to the church we belong. So in the same token that our Lord recognizes the “widow’s mite”, I would want to acknowledge the work and ministry of the “little ones” who faithfully serve the needs of the parish: the greeters, ushers, janitors, volunteers for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, visitors to the sick and homebound, volunteer teachers of the religion classes, and the very silent group who devoutly spend time with the Lord at the adoration chapel praying for all of us, and still more, those who serve the church in their personal capacities in special parish functions, etc.. The Lord, who constantly “watches,” surely noticed their “small acts of love” outpouring from their big heart. In fact our parish exists because of the “givers” - big and small, and we grow as a faith community because there are those who really can give out of love. Blessings to you and have a good week. Fr. Padre Tony
