In the Second Reading, Paul warns against divisions in the Christian family. It seems that the Christians in Corinth were dividing into factions and identifying themselves with various community leaders: “I am for Paul”, “I am for Peter”; even “I am for Christ”. It is clear that such divisions are harmful. All can only be for one person, the One who suffered, died and rose for them, the One in whose name all of them were baptized – Jesus their Lord. We have, unfortunately, many such divisions among Christians today – “I am a Catholic”, “I am an Anglican…a Lutheran…a Methodist…a Presbyterian…” The list is, alas, endless. This is not the kind of family that Jesus intended. Such a dysfunctional family is not in a good position to give effective witness to the Good News of truth and love and fellowship which Jesus prayed for at the Last Supper (John 17). - Adapted from Living, Sacred Space

How to help your parish part I

We often wonder what we can do to help the parish. There are many ways to help and support. Here are a couple... 1. PRAY- The best way to serve the parish is with your ac-tive participation in Mass every weekend and Holy Day of Obligation. When you join your prayers to those of your fel-low parishioners, and show, by your presence, how important it is to participate in the Eucharistic life of the parish, you strengthen the entire Body of Christ. 2. FIND THE RIGHT JOB - We are all recipients of different gifts. Do you have a gift for public speaking? Sign up to be a Lector. Do you like helping at events? Sign up to help at the parish picnic or bazaar. Take a look at your God given attributes, and think about how you can use them best. Perhaps one of our subcommittees is your answer. Spiritual Life Committee - outreach to elderly, home-bound, and nursing home parishioners. Spiritual Activities Committee - planning of various spiritual activities within the parish. Evangelization Outreach Committee - outreach to inactive parishioners and Catholics in our community and the development of a welcoming parish atmosphere.!!!!!!!Youth Ministry Committee - implementing a parish youth group to include activities outside of the religious edu-cation program. - Please contact the office if you would like get involved.!
