Parish Mission Statement

The Parish of St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy, inspired by Mary’s “Yes” and led by the Holy Spirit,

strives to be a faithfilled community, joyfully welcoming all to witness and to celebrate the Gospel.

Jesse Manibusan is a singer,

songwriter, guitarist and teller of

humorous tales. Well recognized

throughout the country as a dynamic,

eclectic speaker and musician, Jesse

shares from his heart the love of

Christ and the call to live out our

baptism in every aspect of life. His

first solo collection, Life You’re

Living, contains the popular “Open

My Eyes,” that has been translated

into several languages. In 2012, he

collaborated with Santiago Fernández

on a bilingual collection entitled

Unidos and his songwriting skills can

also be found on a great number of

albums from other wellknown

Catholic artists. His desire to compose

music that can motivate the people of

God to grow in compassion, mercy,

integrity and courage is evident in all

his music. Jesse is a familiar presence

at diocesan conferences throughout

the U.S. and Canada, including the

Los Angeles Religious Education

Congress, the National Catholic

Youth Conference (NCYC), World

Youth Day events, LIFE TEEN events

and many others. He also conducts

parish missions and retreats through

his Two by Two Ministries and often

copresents retreats and youth liturgy

workshops with fellow OCP composer

Ken Canedo. Jesse holds a master’s

degree in multicultural ministries from

the Franciscan School of Theology in

Berkeley, California. He and his wife

have three grown children and

currently reside in Pacifica,

California.

NOTES FROM PAUL

Today's first reading from Exodus starts off with the

passage, "In those days, in their thirst for water, the people

grumbled against Moses, saying, “Why did you ever make

us leave Egypt? Was it just to have us die here of

thirstwith our children and our livestock?” Well brothers

and sisters we are providing something special for youthis weekendthat

can quench the thirst of your soul this dry lent; our parish mission!

Starting Sunday at 6:30, and running through Tuesday we will be

bringing you Jesse Manibusan to both inspire and refresh you. Please

join me, and the rest of your parish family, at this exciting event. If you

want a preview of Jesse, go to the parish website to see a video of him

singing and telling his story.

Coronavirus Preparedness

Recommendations

In light of growing concerns about the

coronavirus and its effects on those who have

contracted the disease, the Archdiocese of

Detroit asks each of their parishes to

implement the following precautionary

measures to help prevent the transmission of

any virus:

For those who attend mass, we are

recommending congregations suspend the

practice of shaking hands during the Sign

of Peace or elsewhere, and of holding

hands during the Our Father.

 We recommend emptying (and cleaning)

all holy water fonts.

 We recommend our parishes suspend

offering parishioners the Cup of the Most

Precious Blood during Holy Eucharist, out

of an abundance of caution. The

Consecrated Host is the full Body, Blood,

Soul and Divinity of Christ, meaning an

individual does not need to receive from

the Cup in order to achieve full

Communion with Christ.

Fr. Jeff Day

Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

Shamrock Greetings and Salutations,

On Tuesday we celebrate one of our favorite saints, Saint Patrick!

Saint Patrick the Apostle of Ireland, was actually born in Britain.

When Patrick was 16 years old, he was captured by Irish pirates who brought

him to Ireland. He was sold into slavery where his job was tending sheep.

Patrick viewed his enslavement as God’s test of his faith. During his 6 years of

captivity he became devoted to Christianity through constant prayer. Around

408 Patrick fled his master and escaped reuniting with his family. In Auxerre,

France, Patrick entered the Priesthood and persuaded many people to become

Christians. Sometimes our problems can inspire and lead us to do God’s work.

Years later he was ordained a bishop and sent to Ireland to spread the Gospel.

Reflect: How can I change my problems into ways to help others become

better friends with Jesus?

The original color associated with St. Patrick’s Day was actually blue. Back in

the 7

th

century, St. Patrick’s day was a religious holiday celebrated only in

Ireland. Early depictions of St. Patrick show him wearing blue, and the official

color of the Order of St. Patrick, part of Ireland’s chivalry was a sky blue known

as “St. Patrick’s Blue.” So how did the feast day of the patron saint of Ireland

become associated with green? In 1798 during the Irish rebellion the use of

green began when the clover became a symbol of nationalism and the “wearing

of the green” on lapels became regular practice. The green soon spread to

uniforms as well. That evolution, combined with the idea of Ireland’s lush

green fields (The Emerald Isle), and Saint Patrick’s legendary affinity for

shamrocks eventually made blue a thing of the past.

Just for laughs…

What’s a leprechaun’s favorite cereal…Lucky charms.

What kind of bow cannot be tied? A Rainbow

Why did the leprechaun walk out of the house?

He wanted to sit on the “Paddy O”!

Have a great week everyone and remember…May the

leprechauns be near you, to spread luck along your way, and

may all the Irish angels smile upon you this Saint Patrick’s Day!

 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18 AT

7:00pm in Church

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “My food is to do the will of the

one who sent me and to finish his work.”

Through your almsgiving you are doing the will of the Father

and finishing the work of Jesus. Know that your nickel, dime or

quarter is multiplied by the coins given by others for St.Vincent
