We will begin praying the Rosary in the Beitel Commons with the school children at 8:00 a.m., and start processing over to the church. Shortly after the conclusion of the Rosary, Mass will begin, which will be close to 8:25 a.m. This is a way to follow the Blessed Mother’s directive to pray the Rosary, and also to have her lead us to her Son through the Mass. All are welcome to participate in this liturgical activity. On Saturday morning, at 9:00a.m., there will be an ecumenical service headed up by the Greater Columbus Right to Life that will take place at the former Planned Parenthood Center on Central Avenue, which is now closed. We will gather in a spirit of thanksgiving for what has transpired, and continue to pray for God’s protection for the unborn. At noontime we can gather back here at the courtyard, where there will be a Rosary rally. There are 132 white crosses placed in this area, which represent the number of aborted children in Delaware County this past year. This number is going down, and with the recent closure of another abortion facility, that number should further decline. So, good things are happening in this month which is dedicated to our Blessed Mother. Let us lift in prayer all those who were victims of the horrendous tragedy that occurred in Las Vegas this past Sunday. May those who died reside in the mercy of God, and the injured as well as all the families of the victims, receive the Lord’s consolation, comfort, and healing. We pray that the evil, sickness, and ugliness that alienates us from God be overcome by divine grace that unites us as being created in the image and likeness of Our Creator, Redeemer, and sanctifier. Next Saturday, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the main parking lot next to the rectory office, our St. Vincent DePaul members will be awaiting your donations of gently-used fall and winter clothes (or even new clothes), along with nonperishable food items and household items. It is time to get clothes minded and check out and reduce your inventories. – Fr. Michael Watson –

THE PRINCIPAL’S POST

October is the month of the Rosary and we are certainly doing our part at St. Mary School to honor Mary and Jesus in the most reverent way. Last Friday, we said a Living Rosary where a student who led us in prayer represented each “bead.” This coming Friday, October 13, we will remember the children of Fatima and say a Rosary while processing to Mass as a school. These special traditions are what make St. Mary a special place for our children. It is our hope to instill in them the traditions of old and how they can help us in our modern life. Jesus and Mary are always just a prayer away! Please join us anytime.

Monday and Tuesday of this past week, our Fifth graders went to Stratford Ecological Center for some outdoor learning fun. Thank you to Miss Oravec for organizing this experience for the class. They certainly had beautiful days to be exploring nature.

Last week, I witnessed some of the greatest testaments to how our school is making a difference in the lives of our young people and their impact on society. In Washington, D.C., our eighth graders encountered many veterans from an Honor Flight. Our students approached the men, shook their hands, and thanked them for their service. The veterans thanked the chaperones for allowing the children to speak with them. Everyone was really blessed by the experience!

Yours in Christ,Gina Stull, Principal St. Mary School and Preschool

Please remember in your prayers, the repose of the souls of Catherine “Mimi” Davis, Mary Ellen Basbagill, William Kaufhold, father of Geri O’Brien, Bruce Lenocker, father of Travis Lenocker and Marc Mellon, son of Dr. Greg & Judy Mellon, who recently passed away. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord...

St. Mary will hold a Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 14th at noon in the courtyard.

Prayer Life & Reflection

October 8, 2017 –Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary TimeIs 5:1-7; Ps 80:9, 12-16, 19-20; Phil 4:6-9;Mt 21:33-43

One of St. Paul’s favorite topics was prayer, and today’s reading from his letter to the Philippians is no exception to that. He says, “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.” For Paul, all topics are appropriate for prayer, because we need to share and consult with the Lord about everything.

God knows what is on our minds already, of course, but He also desires that we make a conscious effort to communicate with Him on these subjects. In addition, Paul points out that our prayers need to be infused with thanksgiving. We should not just petition the Lord and make requests. It is equally important that we think about, identify and acknowledge our blessings.

We have often pointed out that stewardship is a life of gratitude, a way of living which encourages us to focus on gifts, not on problems and challenges all the time. If we strive to have grateful hearts, our prayers come much more easily, and we tend to be much happier and more upbeat in our lives.

The noted author, philosopher, journalist, and theologian G. K. Chesterton is well-known in Catholic circles because he converted to Catholicism during his life, and was an excellent conveyor of the faith. In terms of living grateful lives, he said, “I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought; and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.” That includes thanks to God. We are in need of help making 75 dozen homebaked or frozen chocolate chip cookies (no store bought). The cookies need to be 2-3 inches in diameter, 12 cookies per quart size plastic lock seal bags – no plastic zipper bags. Cookies can be dropped off at the church vestibule before October 24.

Prayers are also requested from 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26 through 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29. If you are willing to pray for an hour, a paper prayer chain is hung around the room where the event takes place with a link representing someone praying for the residents. If you are willing to help with either of these missions, please contact Loreen Ward at 614-315-2586 or [email protected].
