Dear Parishioners,

As we have now concluded the Easter Season we begin some special celebrations on Sunday like Corpus Christi next weekend and the Holy Trinity this weekend. Christians, as a whole, all believe in the Holy Trinity— one God who is three person, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In the old days if we asked what this meant we were probably told “it is a mystery.” Well, in the end, it really is a mystery. After all, how do you get all of those people in One God?!

The Holy Trinity has been described in many ways by people trying to explain the notion of God to believers and unbelievers. St. Patrick, most famously, used the shamrock to show how the three leaves formed one unit. Philosophers have talked about being and nature. Others, erroneously, have attempted to describe the Holy Spirit by what they DO. We probably still do not understand the Holy Trinity completely nor will we until we reach heaven. But their function is not the purpose as we have heard people describe God as Creator, Redeemer and Sanctifier. That is very American and a Pelagian heresy! (look it up!)

Perhaps the best concrete understanding is a community of people who exist in sharing love. The Father pours out His love upon the Son who is joined to the Father in the Holy Spirit through mutuality and love. Marriage is supposed to reflect this. Good vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life are supposed to mirror this—a self-giving, sacrificial love that goes out of ourselves to the other. So if you have difficulty in understanding the Holy Spirit, think of a community of love each time you hear the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit mentioned.

Fr. Jerry Francik

Liturgy Corner

The Liturgy Committee is concerned with bringing the parish communi-ty and others closer to God through faithful observance of the Church's liturgical norms and guidelines, especially the Mass and other liturgical rites. It seeks to nurture and deepen the parish's public and private prayer life by encouraging full and active participation through well-planned and well-celebrated liturgies including providing for appropriate liturgical settings and the proper participation of liturgical ministers dur-ing all parts of the liturgies.

The Liturgy Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month. If you would like to attend one of our meetings or would like to join our group, please contact Mike Etzel at 410-952-5108, email [email protected]
