REPORT OF THE CHURCHWARDENS 2019
Cathy Wilson Jim Jordan Carol Hulcoop Neil White
Rector’s Warden People’s Warden Dep Rector’s Warden Dep People’s Warden
St. Mark’s has been blessed with another great year both spiritually and financially. We give thanks
daily for the leadership and ministry of The Venerable Peter Scott. Our dedicated ministerial team,
including Peter, Reverend Lynne Thackwray and Reverend Deacon Richard Beaudoin, continue to
guide us and lead us on our spiritual journeys with such grace and wisdom. Amy Pauley joined this
wonderful leadership team for the latter half of the year. We wish her well as she continues on her
path to ordination. Also thanks to Tracy Croft our Children’s Ministry Coordinator for her gifted
leadership and enthusiasm. The children are our future and we are lucky to have her.
We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of both staff and volunteers who go above and
beyond to make St. Mark’s a warm safe welcoming place to be. Our sincere thanks to Carol Foley,
Jane Little, Mary Little and Carol Hulcoop for all they do. Thanks to Trish McKibbon for helping
out in the office when called. Congratulations and a special thank you to Harold Speers for all he
does at the church and on receiving the Order of Niagara! So well deserved!
In early January we thanked and celebrated Pam Claridge for her 13+ years of joyful music and
choir leadership. She will be missed in this role but we are thankful she continues to join us in song
with the congregation. We were very fortunate to welcome Greg Dickison into the position of Mu-
sic Ministry coordinator. He brings a wealth of musical knowledge and talent along with his beauti-
ful voice.
We give thanks for the congregation’s generous gift of treasures. Financially 2019 has been a good
year. Envelope donations were down slightly but together we financed our new driveway and park-
ing lot (Pave the Way) and the foundation wall repairs. The Elizabeth Room renovations were
completed and the beautiful Mary Ranger Library was dedicated. Generous bequests from the es-
tates of Carman Shepherd for $10,000 and Connie McDougall for $20,000 were received this year.
Incredible gifts to the future of our church. What a wonderful legacy!
The St. Mark’s family continues to generously give their gifts of time and talent. Our wealth of pro-
grams, ministries and outreach initiatives are highlighted in the reports that follow. Please take a
moment to read them and see how truly blessed we are here at St. Mark’s. Special thanks to Rich-
ard Beaudoin as he hangs up his chef’s hat, for providing us with years of delicious meals. And also
a special mention to those who donate to, organize and run both the Food Cupboard and the
Christmas Lunch. We are so very grateful to the many many dedicated volunteers within our par-
ish.
It is our privilege to serve as your wardens and we thank Parish Council for their insight and ideas.
They make our jobs a lot easier. And thanks to each and every one of you for your dedication and
commitment to our church mission and Parish family! Together we make a positive impact on our
spiritual lives, the church family and our community!

HIWHOIS ASSISTANCE GROUP 2019
Hiwhois Assistance Group is a charity that owns two detached homes in Orangeville and
operates them as subsidized housing through a service agreement with County of Duffer-
in. This report deliberately does not contain the addresses to protect the privacy of the
tenants. St. Mark’s assumed control of Hiwhois in June 2012. Hiwhois is the entity that
controlled Credit River prior to St. Mark’s taking control in 2007.
In another year of normal operation, Hiwhois ended fiscal 2019 with a small surplus.
Hiwhois continued its support of the Beacon through a $5000 donation to St. Mark’s.
Hiwhois will continue to make charitable donations based on requests to the board with
the guidance of Corporation.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Little
President

ST. MARK’S MUSIC MINISTRY REPORT 2019
St. Mark’s choir had a year of change and adjustments to make beginning with the
retirement of Pam Claridge from the position of Music Ministry Coordinator. The choir is
grateful and blessed to have had many years of leadership from Pam. A new Korg electric
rehearsal piano was purchased for the choir warm-up room and rehearsal space and has
been given in gratitude for Pam’s ministry. The piano will also be used by Theatre
Orangeville Youth Singers during their rehearsals.
Also in 2019, St. Mark’s choir has welcomed Gregory Dickison as new Music Ministry
Coordinator. Gregory brought with him a number of years’ experience working as
organist and choir director for Anglican Churches in the area as well as numerous years as
a high school Music teacher.
As usual, the choir prepared suitable music for Lent, Easter, Harvest, Remembrance Day,
Christmas, as well as other occasions.
The choir also sang at several church funerals, community suppers, and members also
helped lead the carol singing at the Christmas Luncheon.
During the 2019 calendar year, we said farewell to a number of choir members with
thanks for their years’ service and song, and welcomed new members to the fold. The
Music Ministry is always eager to expand it’s service to the congregation. As always,
singers and musicians with reading skills are welcome to contact Gregory Dickison to find
out more about participating in this valuable ministry.
Special thanks are offered to Archdeacon Peter, Rev. Lynne and Deacon Richard for their
support; Carol for her assistance and patience in the office; Jim Coupland and Shirley
Gerhard for their musical support, organization, accompaniment and expertise; Andy and
Cyn Clarke for preparing the hymn boards weekly; Lee Moir for his technical assistance
and record keeping, Cathy and Shirley for the work they do spreading the Word of the
Lord to the children of the Lion’s Den through music; and the collective wisdom and
experience of the choir members in helping this transition year be a success.
Respectfully submitted,
Gregory Dickison

STEWARDSHIP REPORT - 2019
Committee Membership: Fred Aitchison, Bill Conning, Judy Conning, Chris Little, Jane
Little, The Venerable Peter Scott, Mary Wheelwright, Christine White, Neil White, Yvonne
Guse Rahn, Carol Hulcoop
Adopt-a-Bill: We continued in 2019 with a revamped Adopt-a-Bill board which reflected
the exact amount per week of eight bills we have to pay. Many thanks to Jane Little for tak-
ing on this important aspect of our ministry. Thank you to everyone who gave towards sup-
porting this stewardship initiative.
Contracts: We continue to selectively rent out the Parish Hall, kitchen and Elizabeth
Room, and we are partnering with some not-for-proifit organizations who receive reduced
rent. The new contract for snow removal has been saving us money over previous years.
Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Letters: We continued with these tradi-
tional four special letters. Response to them has always been very good and we thank all
who gave.
Pave the Way The parking lot at St. Mark’s had not been paved for at least 19 years, and in
some areas almost 25 years. It was particularly bad on the two alleyways on either side of
the church. The contract to pave the entire parking lot was awarded to Coppertone Paving.
When the old asphalt was removed it was revealed that we needed to add one foot of gravel
which added $11,000 to the cost of the project. Greenwood Construction donated the grav-
el free of charge for which we are very grateful. We have paid more than half the bill and will
pay the balance when the final layer of asphalt is added in the spring of 2020.
The Reverend Mary Ranger Library St. Mark’s Library had not been updated for a long
time. Thanks to the generosity of Sara and Jim Hope the library was completed rebuilt. A
considerable number of books were sent to a used book store and many parishioners donat-
ed towards new books - thank you! In addition to this, we renovated the Elizabeth Room
with new carpeting, a fresh paintjob, new valences, and cupboards. This was all done through
the time and talent of Bill and Margaret Robertson, Tracey and Lindsay Croft and Cathy Wil-
son.
Stewardship Dinner –Friday, November 15
Another very successful Stewardship Dinner was enjoyed by over 60 people. Deacon Rich-
ard Beaudoin cooked his last dinner at St. Mark’s. Thank you to Deacon Richard and his crew
for the wonderful meals throughout the years and to Cathy Wilson and the Social Commit-
tee for their set-up and creative decorations.
Looking Ahead to 2020:
Time, treasure and talent continue to be strong assets that St. Mark’s processes which will
take us in to the new decade on solid footing. We do not foresee any projects that will re-
quire fundraising in 2020.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE THROUGH THEIR TIME, TREASURE
& TALENT TO ST. MARK’S MINISTRY IN 2019
Submitted by the Venerable Peter Scott

For the 2020 budget, there is a deficit of $20,000 (In 2019 our budgeted deficit was $16,500). Our budget shows an increase in envelope givings of 1.9% over the 3 year average. Also included are our fundraising expectations for the Treas-
ure Table, Silent Auction and Adopt-A-Bill, along with draws from restricted in-vestments.
Any shortfalls in the budget will be covered by monthly $2,000 withdrawls from
the Heritage fund. Whatever funds that are withdrawn that are not needed will
be returned to the Heritage Fund before the end of the year.
