A NOTE FROM FATHER KEVIN Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

+ Pax et Bonum!

Welcome to St. Maria Goretti on this the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time! We especially welcome all of our guests and visitors who join us today for Lord’s Day Masses. There is such a power and strength in being together around the Altar of the Lord! And we’re glad and grateful that you are here to join us for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

This coming Friday night, is our annual Daddy/Daughter Dance. For many years now, this has been a favorite on our annual schedule. Many a young St. Maria Goretti girl has looked forward to coming to this event with her dad! There’s lots of loud music, and refreshments, and great prizes. The Daddy/ Daughter Dance each year is the major fundraiser for our Sports Ministry program here at the Parish. The funds raised have helped us to continue to develop first-class Sports Ministry programs for our kids and youth. Once again, the Daddy/ Daughter Dance is being chaired by the wonderful Deb Biddlecombe and her team of amazing volunteers. A good time is planned for all on Friday night, so I hope that all of you Dads have lined up your “dates” for this year’s Daddy/Daughter Dance.

Our Sports Ministry program is very important to our Parish Family. Celebrating athletics, and team work, and the great gift that God has given us in our healthy bodies, and teaching a spirit of sportsmanship and good competition, our Sports Ministry seeks to share and build our Faith and our Faith community by creating positive relationships and organizing balanced athletic competition. Hundreds of our kids participate in our programs each year! Dozens of men and women from our Parish Family coach and help form these young folks in a more positive experience of athletic competition.

We are very blessed to live in an area that has several wonderful sports programs available to our children. Westfield Youth Sports, the Carmel Dad’s Club, and several others offer outstanding sports experiences to area youth. And yet, here at St. Maria Goretti, we wanted something more, something better. Is it possible that we could make sports a ministry and an outreach of the Church? Is there a Christian perspective on sportsmanship and competition? Could we teach our kids sports and the positive values of sports, without some of the negative aspects, encouraging each child to play their best with the abilities that God gave them? The answer to those questions from the very beginning of our Sports Ministry program, has been a resounding “Yes!” And for nearly 20 years now, our brothers and sisters have been making that happen every year!

The current Sports Ministry program is under the guidance of our Athletic Director, Pat Biddlecombe, and our Assistant Athletic Director, Tina Uhland. Pat and Tina have a wonderful Sports Ministry Board that guides and assists them. And in addition, each sport has its own commissioner. The organization is well-thought out and works hard to maintain its original objectives. I thank Pat, and Tina, the Sports Ministry Board, and all of the commissioners, coaches, volunteers, parents, and student athletes who make this program happen every week. Sports Ministry has been a great blessing to our Parish Family. Sports and athletics have always brought people together. May we continue to use them to build up our community and our Church!

Next Saturday is our delivery date for the Thanksgiving food items that we are sending out to those in need. I’d also like to thank in advance the hundreds of people who have volunteered to help out. It is a huge undertaking! And yet, with many hands and a lot of organization, we look forward to next Saturday morning going very smoothly. May our prayers and our Faith go with all this food to these families, our brothers and sisters in need!

Next weekend is also the Great Feast of Christ the King and the end of our liturgical year. That’s right, Advent begins in just two weeks! It is amazing how quickly time flies by when you’re busy building the Kingdom of God!

In Christ, Fr. Kevin

Don’t complain unless you’re willing to do something about it.

Welcome! For more than 19 years now, we have been building the Kingdom of God, not with a few people, but with everyone! Please accept my warmest welcome, and I pray you will come to know St. Maria Goretti as we all do—our Spiritual Home and Loving Community. We are glad you are here and look forward to meeting you! God Bless you. —Father Kevin Welcome:

What’s Next?

Hosting nearly 7,200 visitors and friends required a

huge effort from this Parish Family! And, it happened.

And even better, it happened joyfully!

So, are we done? Nope. Now it is time for our Parish

Family to come together to serve our brothers and

sisters, our Hamilton County neighbors, in need.

These next few weeks will see many people doing

many things to help make Thanksgiving and Christ-

mas filled with a little more joy and hope than would

have otherwise happened.

Not only has the HELP Committee and the Shep-

herd’s Gate Food Pantry requested grocery donations

-- but they will sort them and ready them for pickup

and delivery November 21! Please try and make your

family available to help either load cars or deliver

food. What a wonderful thing to do as a family!

Our HELP Christmas deliveries will occur December

19. Not too far away! Keep an eye out for the Angel

Trees that will soon be appearing! More “behind the

scene angels” are always needed to gather the gifts

delivered each weekend and take them to the CRHP

rooms for sorting and organizing.

We’ve already proven we can care for 7,000+ visi-

tors, now it is time to care for some more people we

may or may not know personally to have a better holi-

day season.

SHEPHERD’S GATE FOOD PANTRY REQUESTS

There is no food drive item for November.

If you have not already done so, please return your filled blue reusable grocery bag as soon as possible. Collection carts are available after all Masse, or you may drop off your items near the pantry door in the Parish Office area.

The pantry is also still in need of copy paper boxes in which to pack the holiday food. You may drop those off also. Thanks for your generosity!

You can also designate your United Way pledge to benefit Shepherd’s Gate Food Pantry—our United Way number is 7096.

DRIVERS WANTED! Thanks to all who took a Commitment Card last weekend! The HELP Committee can al-

ways use additional drivers to deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals and packages to 150 families in Hamilton County on Saturday, November 21 and Saturday, December 19, starting at 8 am. It’s simple. No need to leave your car. Just pull up in front of the Parish Hall, and we will load you up, provide you with a map, and send you on your way. Questions? Contact Tara Quirke, [email protected].

The Angel Trees for the annual HELP Committee Christmas Drive will soon be up in the Church and School narthexes. If your family, BCC, CRHP team, office, sports team or any other group would like to sponsor a family, contact Tara Quirke, 372-6275 or [email protected], prior to Friday, November 20.

Today is your last chance to donate socks for our 153 families in need. No time to shop? Just buy a Walmart, Target, or Meijer SCRIP card and donate it, and we’ll go shopping for you!

LET’S DO SOMETHING SMG! Throughout November, the school will be working for two charities to help those in need. Our monthly Charity Day will be for the Wheeler Mission. We have also cre-ated an SMG Team for the Drumstick Dash that also bene-fits the Wheeler Mission. Consider joining our team, or make a donation. Info is on our Website, smgonline.org/school. Our school is also participating in the Operation Christmas Child. This project will send 451 shoe boxes (one for each student in our school) to children all over the world. We need donations of small toys (gently used or new— can be McDonald’s toys), toothbrushes, small bars of soap, plain shirts, small journals, and pens, pencils or cray-ons. Donation deadline is November 13. Thanks for your help!

CELEBRATE CALM Stop defiance, disrespect, and yelling with America’s Calm Coach Kirk Martin and his son, Casey. Perfect class for parents with kids aged 2-22. Leave with strategies that work immediately. Kirk will demonstrate 10 ways to:

· get your kids to listen the first time.

· stop defiance, disrespect, and yelling.

· stop whining, tantrums, and sibling fights.

· get kids off video games/screens without a fight.

· create stress-free mornings, homework time, and bedtime.
