As we continue to see images of the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Florence and now Hurricane Michael it is
important that we come together to reach out to support those affected by these disasters. The widespread damage, tragic
suffering and loss of lives present an overwhelming challenge to relief efforts and agencies such as Catholic Charities and
Catholic Relief Services. With this in mind, Bishop Tobin is inviting parishes to take up a special collection to assist the
victims of Hurricanes Florence and Michael. On the weekend of November 3 & 4 we will have a special second collection to
help in this relief effort.

our Pastoral Minister, a priest or deacon to visit and bring
communion. Please also let us know of any parishioners
who may be hospitalized or recovering from surgery in a
rehab facility and would like a visit from the parish.

The Pastor’s Corner
Have you ever been “jaded”? It may have happened in a
friendship/relationship/marriage, at work, or by the Church,
elected officials, the justice system, or by people in other
positions of authority. It can cast a pall over areas of our life
that make us weary, guarded, or maybe even withdrawn.
Like James and John in today’s Gospel, they were attempting
to cozy up to Jesus “in his glory (i.e. heaven).” Jesus asked
the question, “What do you wish me to do for you?” Well,
there are ten other chosen ones around, and they rightly
became indignant at the brazen personal maneuvering of the
two brothers in their relationship with Jesus. James and
John, however, receive a much different answer than they
expected. “So, you want to be “the first?” Then be “the
best…the best example of a faith-filled servant to others!”
Servant leadership is a blessed gift for all the parish
community.
There are many things going on in the parish, and I
strongly recommend you read the bulletin carefully each
week. A holyday (Nov. 1st is All Saints), followed by All
Souls Day and the dedication of another memorial stone in
the Our Lady Garden, Confirmation, the Deacon’s reception,
planning for the Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service, Breakfast
with St. Nick, Advent, and the busy Christmas Schedule are
all on the pastoral planning board. With so many activities
and in light of this week’s Gospel of serving, my profound
thanks to all who assist, volunteer, coordinate and
participate in our parish and school life. St. Margaret’s is a
wonderful active parish…and it all happens because of us;
you and me working together to build the Kingdom of God.
Gratefully yours in Christ,
~Monsignor Darcy
Speaking on this topic, our own Deacon John was
ordained on October 10th, 1998 by Bishop Robert Mulvee.
Assigned here to his home parish, Deacon Needham has
served with three pastors over these 20 years. His
dedication to preaching, baptismal preparation,
coordination of lectors, visitation to the sick, officiating at
wakes and burials, and overseeing the weekly collection
team are but some of the services he continues to offer us
at St. Margaret’s. We will publically recognize him on
November 10th at the 5 PM Mass. Thank you, Deacon
Needham, for your kind and generous servant leadership
to us at St. Margaret’s.
