REFLECTION
Immediately after Peter’s confession of Jesus as the Messiah, Jesus
clarifies how his concept of Messiah includes suffering and the cross. Three insights can be drawn from the readings of today’s
liturgy. a) Suffering and cross precede glory and exaltation: The Lord will bless the house of Israel and the house of Judah. But this will happen only when the enemies have had their fill. b) In and through Baptism we share the passion, death and resurrection of
Jesus: St Paul tells the Galatians that all those who are baptised includes
both his suffering and glorification. c) One should have the right perception of Jesus as the Messiah:
The disciples had a limited and earthly perception of Jesus. This ignorance springs from a misconception about the Messiah.
What is my perception of Jesus as the Messiah? How does it affect my approach to moments of suffering and honour
in my life?

PARISH NEWS/EVENTS
ni pronti all’eroismo.
zientemente grazie all’amore per lui.

PARISH NEWS/EVENTS
Something to think about ….. When questioned by Jesus, Peter gives the right answer: “You are the Messiah of God” But this response is mainly head knowledge as yet. He will later deny that he even knows Jesus. But at the lake he shows that his heart is at least fully engaged when he responds to Jesus “ You know I love you “ Note that this event emerges from Jesus’ prayer. Luke thus gives us a hint that what Jesus says is of critical importance . Do I pray before important events, asking that I may be in tune with what God would wish ? The St Vincent de Paul WINTER
APPEAL 2016. This year the Society is focussing the
Winter Appeal on homelessness. The
Society President, Denis Walsh
announced as he launched this year's
Winter Appeal that "Women in
Australia are experiencing
homelessness at a rate of more than
double that of the UK. 59% of
Australians seeking help from specialist homelessness services
are women which is significantly higher rates than the UK's 26%
and the USA's 38%"
Members of St Kevin's and St John's regularly provide a hand up
to persons experience hardship and homelessness. This support is
only possible through your continued generous donations and
support throughout the year.
Homelessness affects young people, older people and couples
and families. It is said there sometimes are only 2 pay packets
between being in a home and being homelessness and loss of job,
or family tragedy can tip the scales in the short space if one
months Our members are seeing a continuing upward trend of
individuals and families who have no where to live and this
includes children. Thank you for your prayers, donations and
support. Brigid Martin on behalf of St Kevin's St Vincent de
Paul Society
Catholic Women’s League Members will meet at St. John’s on Monday 20th June after rosary in the church at 1.30pm. All welcome.

This national conference on parish evangelisation
hosted by the Diocese of Broken Bay will run from 1-3
September at Chatswood. The theme, ‘On a Mission of
Mercy: Evangelising Parishes’, embraces the challenge

language and structures can be suitably channelled for
the evangelisation of today’s world (Evangelii
Gaudium 27). Keynote speakers include Cardinal
Donald Wuerl of Washington, Bishop Nicholas Hudson

Washington. Program details and early bird
registration at: www.proclaimconference.com.au

The Lord is the strength of his people, a saving refuge for the one he has anointed. Save your people, Lord, and bless your heritage, and govern them for ever.
First Reading: Zechar iah 12:10-11; 13:1
A reading from the prophet Zechariah It is the Lord who speaks: 'Over the House of David and the citizens of Jerusalem I will pour out a spirit of kindness and prayer. They will look on the one whom they have pierced; they will mourn for him as for an only son, and weep for him as people weep for a first-born child. When that day comes, there will be great mourning in Judah, like the mourning of Hadad-rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. When that day comes, a fountain will be opened for the House of David and the citizens of Jerusalem, for sin and impurity.'
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 62:2-6. 8-9
R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.
O God, you are my God, for you I long; for you my soul is thirsting. My body pines for you like a dry, weary land without water. R.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory. For your love is better than life, my lips will speak your praise. R.
So I will bless you all my life, in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul shall be filled as with a banquet, my mouth shall praise you with joy. R.
For you have been my help; in the shadow of your wings I rejoice. My soul clings to you; your right hand holds me fast. R.
Second Reading: Galatians 3:26-29
A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Galatians You are, all of you, sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. All baptised in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves in Christ, and there are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and fe-male, but all of you are one in Christ Jesus. Merely by belonging to Christ you are the posterity of Abraham, the heirs he was promised.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation: John 10:27
Alleluia, alleluia! My sheep listen to my voice, says the Lord; I know them, and they follow me. Alleluia!
Gospel : Luke 9:18-24
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
One day when Jesus was praying alone in the presence of his disciples he put this question to them, 'Who do the crowds say I am?' And they answered, 'John the Baptist; others Elijah; and others say one of the ancient prophets come back to life.' 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' he said. But he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone anything about this.
'The Son of Man', he said, 'is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'
Then to all he said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross every day and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, that man will save it.'
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Communion Antiphon
The eyes of all look to you, Lord, And you give them their food in due season.
