Beatitudes – Beatitudes are the eight blessings pronounced by Jesus at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount.(Mt. 5:3-12) In the first three Beatitudes are listed the faults that must be corrected if human beings are to be perfect – the love of riches, pride, and desire for pleasure. In the next three Beatitudes are found the virtues that must regulate our relations with God, our neighbor, and ourselves – justice, mercy, and purity. In the last two Beatitudes, Christ urges his followers to be zealous in spreading the Gospel and peace. He promises that they will be rewarded with honor and power in the Kingdom of God for all that they have had to suffer for Him. The Beatitudes have rightly been termed the Magna Charta of Christianity, for they set forth the Christian rule of life. As such, they have also being characterized with good reason as “Eight Words for Eternity.”

Lamentations –31st book of the old testament consisting of 5 poems written by an eyewitness of the national Jewish catastrophe that occurred with the fall of Jerusalem in 587. They combine confession of sin, grief over the suffering and humiliation of Zion, submission to merited chastisement and strong faith in the constancy of God’s love, peace to bring about restoration.

Fish; Ichthys – from early centuries this symbol is found in Christian literature and art to represent Christ. The fish symbol was not, represented exclusively with symbols of the Eucharist; quite frequently it is found associated with such other symbols as the dove, the anchor, and the monogram of Christ.
