Our Mission: To build a parish community that shares God’s love through prayer, service and evangelization so

that all feel welcome in making St. Jude their home.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

We hope for many things: passing an exam, finding our

true love, securing sustainable work, or surviving an illness.

We often seek to have God be a part of what we hope for

and desire, almost trying to convince Him that our agenda

is what is ultimately important. While our particular hopes

may appear to be what needs to be achieved in order for us

to be happy, they really are not. Our lesser, more personal

hopes can distract us from true hope.

When God became a human being, a powerful message

was sent: all that is authentically human is found in the

divine. As the human Jesus lived and died in order to show

us that he truly is the universal Christ, we have to keep our

sight focused on our eternal truth and destiny and who we

truly are. We have to be careful when we allow our earthly

concerns to distract us. True hope is found when we place

our trust in Christ’s promises and don’t rely on our own

strength. True hope focuses on striving toward the

fulfillment of God’s promises and not simply on achieving

what we think we need in this life. Hope always travels with

two friends — faith and love. In this trio of virtues, we find

the very presence of God born in every human being.

These are God’s greatest gifts, and they lead us to the

fullness of His presence.

As with faith and love, we cannot see hope with just our

human eyes. We don’t carry this virtue within us to use

solely for our own personal agenda. Hope is not something

that simply comes with the human package. As with faith

and love, hope is a gift that is given to us to draw us closer

to our eternal truth. Faith, hope, and love are signs that

there is something far greater going on in us and something

greater to persevere in obtaining. The true divine gift of

hope is what will endure any hardship we encounter,

especially those that will come from authentically living the

Gospel. With all that is happening in our lives, in our

church, and in our world, what is the reason for our hope?

Ask God for the fortitude to see His eternal gift as the

reason we get up in the morning and do the things we do.

Laudato Si’ Week

MAY 16-24

This year marks the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’ On Care for Our Common Home. In celebration, he invites us to join Catholics around the world in committing to action that increases our response to “the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.”

Visit www.LaudatoSiWeek.org for resources, action items and to see how Catholics around the world are making an impact.

Father of all, Creator and ruler of the universe, You entrusted your world to us as a gift. Help us to care for it and all people, that we may live in right relationship– with You, with ourselves, with one another, and with creation. Christ our Lord, both divine and human, You lived among us and died for our sins. Help us to imitate your love for the human family by recognizing that we are all connected— to our brothers and sisters around the world, to those in poverty impacted by environmental devastation, and to future generations. Holy Spirit, giver of wisdom and love, You breathe life in us and guide us. Help us to live according to your vision, stirring to action the hearts of all— individuals and families, communities of faith, and civil and political leaders. Triune God, help us to hear the cry of those in poverty, and the cry of the earth, so that we may together care for our common home. Amen.

This prayer from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is based on Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home. https://catholiccurrent.org/twim-0625/care-for-gods-creation-2/

A Note from Ms. Julie Religious Education classes have ended for the 2019-2020 school year. Parents may come to the east side door of the Education Building and look for their child’s RE book—their completion certificate is included in the book. First thru Fifth Graders will keep their backpacks and Bibles to use for next year. Sacrament year students need to turn in their completed work along with their yellow First Eucharist folder in the bin by the east side door.

Thank you and God bless all for completing the assigned chapters during this time of quarantine. Our prayers are with you as we begin the summer that you stay healthy and safe!

RESOURCES FOR YOU

FIRST PRAYER

O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering, and persevered in your faith.

“Protectress of the Roman people”, you know our needs, and we know that you will provide, so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us. For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.

Amen.

We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from every danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.

Our Catholic devotion for the month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Virgin Mary. During this month, Pope Francis encourages the faithful to pray the Rosary at home. He gave us two prayers to Our Lady that we can recite at the end of the Rosary.

the-month-of-may-full-text.html

SECOND PRAYER

“We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God”.

In the present tragic situation, when the whole world is prey to suffering and anxiety, we fly to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection.

Virgin Mary, turn your merciful eyes towards us amid this coronavirus pandemic. Comfort those who are distraught and mourn their loved ones who have died, and at times are buried in a way that grieves them deeply. Be close to those who are concerned for their loved ones who are sick and who, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, cannot be close to them. Fill with hope those who are troubled by the uncertainty of the future and the consequences for the economy and employment.

Mother of God and our Mother, pray for us to God, the Father of mercies, that this great suffering may end and that hope and peace may dawn anew. Plead with your divine Son, as you did at Cana, so that the families of the sick and the victims be comforted, and their hearts be opened to confidence and trust.

Protect those doctors, nurses, health workers and volunteers who are on the frontline of this emergency, and are risking their lives to save others. Support their heroic effort and grant them strength, generosity and continued health.

Be close to those who assist the sick night and day, and to priests who, in their pastoral concern and fidelity to the Gospel, are trying to help and support everyone.

Blessed Virgin, illumine the minds of men and women engaged in scientific research, that they may find effective solutions to overcome this virus.

Support national leaders, that with wisdom, solicitude and generosity they may come to the aid of those lacking the basic necessities of life and may devise social and economic solutions inspired by farsightedness and solidarity.

Mary Most Holy, stir our consciences, so that the enormous funds invested in developing and stockpiling arms will instead be spent on promoting effective research on how to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.

Beloved Mother, help us realize that we are all members of one great family and to recognize the bond that unites us, so that, in a spirit of fraternity and solidarity, we can help to alleviate countless situations of poverty and need. Make us strong in faith, persevering in service, constant in prayer.

Mary, Consolation of the afflicted, embrace all your children in distress and pray that God will stretch out his all-powerful hand and free us from this terrible pandemic, so that life can serenely resume its normal course.

To you, who shine on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope, do we entrust ourselves, O Clement, O Loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary. Amen.
