Jesus says that He is the Good Shepherd who gives His sheep eternal life, and that “No one can take them out of my hand.” (John 10:27-30). We know that Jesus also said to St. Peter: “Tend my sheep” (Last Sunday’s Gospel John 21:1-19). They have written many authoritative encyclicals to protect us from the errors and sins of the modern age.

Now Pope Francis has produced a long document that reaffirms and re-explains the teachings found in the encyclicals of his predecessors. This Apostolic Exhortation “Amoris Laetitia” is not an encyclical, but it confirms our belief that certain things

Respect Life

Every month during the Year of Mercy we are reflecting on Works of Mercy

April: Counsel the Doubtful

Pray for people who are sad and full of doubt and indecision regarding their Catholic faith. Pray for Catholic college students who are confused and scandalized by atheistic professors. Pray for the priests and bishops whose task it is to counsel the doubtful by means of preaching. Pray for the catechists and Catholic teachers and professors whose task it is to counsel the doubtful by means of teaching. Commit yourself to learning about the Catholic faith so that you can share your understanding of the faith with others. Offer words of encouragement to those who are uneducated about their Catholic religion. Invite people to take part in educational opportunities for adults at St. Joseph’s Parish such as Bible Studies and “That Man is You.” Give someone a gift of a good Catholic book or DVD. Ask people about their hopes and support them in striving to respond to their vocation in life. Offer positive words to friends and classmates who are sad and discouraged.

Actions for this month:

Read the pope’s exhortation ‘Amoris Laetitia,’ or ‘One Love in the Family’ http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/ papa-francesco_esortazione-ap_20160319_amoris-laetitia.html

Healthy Tips from our St. Joseph’s Health Ministry

Feel 40% better by praying! According to the Journal of

Behavioral Medicine, praying triggers the so called “relaxation

response,” a physical state of soothing calm that shuts down the release of stress hormones,

relaxing muscles and decreasing your ability to feel pain.

Regina Caeli During the Easter season (until Pentecost, May 15), Cath-

olics pray the following prayer instead of the Angelus (at 6am, Noon and 6pm):

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia. V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia. R. Pray for us to God, alleluia. V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia. Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Children’s Cheribum Choir

"There is Peace!" The continued performances of the

St. Joseph’s Cherubim Children`s Choir participation at the Modesto High School recitals has allowed this mighty group of younger singers to deliver a Christian message to recital guests. The evening became an amazing mix of four-choir fellowship, musically educational, as well as an exciting outreach and evangelization to the local community. The repertoire we presented ranged from kids favorites and musicals, to inspiring Christian contemporary pieces. It was a true joy to see our little Cherubims proclaiming the greatness of the Lord in the uplifting and inspiring music piece: "Glory to God, Hosanna in the Highest!"

What was unique in this MHS spring recital: a concluding finale when all 4 choirs (100+ choristers) joined together to deliver a message: There is Peace – Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant us Peace from Agnus Dei), that teaches principles of God`s love and mercy through music.

It is our mission to discover, nurture and enjoy our children’s God-given talents. Our children`s choir program introduces young singers to music, singing and rhythm, development of musicianship and skills in the context of a rich and engaging spiritual environment. Start your child on the path of musical enjoyment and achievement with our Cherubim choir. For more information about how your child can participate, call Svetlana at 551-4973, ext. 200.

to God, Hosanna in the Highest,” o sea, “Gloria a Dios, Hosanna en el

Cielo.”
