A Message from John Finizio

St. Joseph had a very exciting andsuccessful year in 2011, and I want tothank our medical staff for all theircontributions and commitment to St. Joe'sand our patients. The big event of coursewas the launching of CarePATH, ourelectronic medical record that went live inAugust. This is by far the one of thebiggest initiatives that we have seen inrecent years and although a significantchange, physicians and staff have done well

in the transition. Some other significantevents worth mentioning:

• Recertification of St. Joe's as aMagnet Hospital

• Installation of lift equipment forpatient and employee safety

• Opening of our new InfusionCenter

• Our new location and expansion ofour Sleep Lab

• Received the Anthem QualityAward

• Acquired adjacent property onEastland Avenue for futureexpansion

• Contracted with AVI for all dietaryservices

• Successful ACOS survey for CancerCare Center

• Renovated the Howland SurgeryCenter

• Added digital radiology at ourAndover emergency

• US World and News reportdistinction for St. Joe's Gynecologyservices

As we look to 2012, there are going tobe continued growth and operationalinitiatives at St. Joseph that will improveour physician, patient and employeeexperience. Although 2012 will bechallenging, I am confident that we willcontinue to have the same success inachieving quality outcomes, operationalimprovements, and strong financialperformance as we did in 2011.

John FinizioPresident, St. Joseph Health Center

I am very happy to share with you thaton December 16, 2011 we were notified bythe American Nurses Credentialing Center(ANCC) that St. Joseph Health Centerwhich includes Andover Emergency andthe Howland Surgery Center, receivedMagnet re-designation. For SJHC alongwith SEHC, this is a second re-designation.In addition, SEBHC received first timedesignation. This is truly a wonderfulachievement for our nursing division.Magnet status means clinical nurses, alongwith nursing leadership, are making adifference in patient care and outcomes. It also demonstrates the collaborativeprocesses between nurses, physicians, andother members of the health care team.

I especially want to thank the doctorsat SJHC who took time to meet with theMagnet appraisers during their visit inSeptember. The ANCC always seek outour physicians’ perspective of nursing. Thanks very much to: Dr. Robert Moos-ally, Dr. Bipin Patel, Dr. Anthony DeSalvo,Dr. Gretchen Nickell, Dr. Edward Novosel, and Dr. Philip Starr.

Diabetes Education

Allow us to help your patients thathave diabetes get their year off to a goodstart.

Diabetes education classes are held atthe St. Joseph Health Center hospital oncea month. Class times alternate betweenmorning and evening. Class participantscan have Pre-Diabetes, Type 1, or Type 2.Individual sessions are held for womenwith Gestational diabetes. We also do 1:1sessions for insulin or glucose meterinstruction.

Most insurance carriers cover the costof the classes, but we have each participantcheck with their own carrier to make surethere is coverage. If they do not have insur-ance, or the insurance does not cover thecost, there are other options that we candiscuss with the participant. It is a paidbenefit for any HMHP employee that car-ries the hospital's insurance.
