The Church Roof—Work began on Wednesday of this past week. The parish

office was first addressed with the church to follow this coming week. Right

now, the plan is to shingle the church roof all of next week. What is projected to

occur could be interrupted, however, because of weather, funerals and other

unexpected circumstances. The Mass schedule should not be affected. Do

expect normal construction disruption to affect the parish plant which includes the parking lot. There

will be noise and perhaps some inconvenience, but the end product will make everything worth

anything we might experience. Please pray for the safety of the workers and that all will go well.

Faith in Our Future Committee—I am pleased to announce that a parish committee has been formed

to study and implement a capital campaign and building project for St. Joseph. I have made various

references to this in the past, and now it is time to share with you the members of the com-

mittee. They are: Joe and Barb Schmall (committee co-chairs), Matt and Judy Ramsey, Scot Brown

and Julie Lammers, Casey Kettmann, Doug Brock and I. Assisted by parishioner Pat O’Connor, the

committee is currently organizing itself and determining the best way to proceed first with a study of

the parish plant to ascertain present and future needs to improve existing structures or to discern

whether new structures need to be built. Their work will be guided by Archdiocesan policy and

learning best practices by other parishes that have conducted a capital campaign and a building

project. The committee will plan to offer periodic updates regarding their work and invite parishioner

input.

Father’s Day—occurs this year on Trinity Sunday, the day we reflect upon God’s self-revelation as

one God and a trinity of persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Trinity Sunday is placed

well in the liturgical calendar as it occurs right after Pentecost. From Advent to Pentecost, we have

been reflecting upon the Father, who sent the Son to save us, and the gift of the Holy Spirit who draws

and binds us to the Father and the Son.

Can I ever connect this celebration with the secular observance of Father’s Day? Yes, indeed!

Consider how God the Father is revealed. He is a provident Father who is creator of the heavens and

the earth. He orders the universe, establishes commandments (laws) and disciplines his children for

their good. The Father sent his Son into the world ultimately to be the sacrifice for our sins and to

open the gates of heaven for us. The Father is willing to sacrifice the one who is dear to him for his

wayward creation. Jesus reveals the Father as a merciful, prodigal (lavish and extravagant) father in

terms of how far he is willing to go for his creation to be reconciled unto him.

While our dads aren’t divine or perfect, we see traits of our Heavenly Father in them. They are

provident and sacrifice for their offspring. They suffer with their children, discipline them and

establish order for their own good. We have enjoyed and appreciated being held by our dads when

we were young, just as the Father continues to hold us in his arms, and have known their

forgiveness. We give thanks for our dads today, thank them for their love and care, and pray for

them, living and deceased. Happy Father’s Day!

Out of the Office—I plan to take some breaks before Fr. Mark departs on July 9th and we become a

one priest parish. Hence, I will be out of the office from June 17-19.
