Encountering the Divine In the Gospel today we hear the story of the Transfiguration of Jesus. The char-acters from Scripture who appear are Moses and Elijah. Moses goes up the mountain of God and there experi-ences a bush on fire that is not consumed. There he receives a call to go to Pharaoh and lead God’s people out of Egypt. During this holy season of Lent, it could be helpful for all of us, at some point during these forty days, to “go up the mountain.” To find some time for prayer and re-treat. To go wherever we need to go or do whatever we need to do in order to go to meet God. And when we do, we ought to rest in that and give thanks for the moment. Then we’d each have a fulfilling Lent. Prayer to St. Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host,

by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan

and all evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls
