Third Sunday of Lent March 15 2020 —Year A So much in life we want, desire, need: food and drink, friendship and love, sex and acceptance; Jesus, what have you to offer? What does it mean that Anyone who drinks the water that I will give will never be thirsty again? Human wants and desires are confused; we want happiness and look in the wrong places; were like the woman at the well, looking for happiness in a place we cant find it, and open to the love Jesus offers: Anyone who drinks the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. I thank you Lord, for faith, for the roots of my life which nobody else can give; I thank you for a meaning in life which makes me strong from birth to death; I thank you for the Eucharist which nourishes all lifes moments; I thank you for forgiveness, which means I need never stay stuck in faults. Catholic Social Teaching—What Can I Do About it here and now?

PROJECT COMPASSION 2020

Father of four, Barry, embodies resilience and strength. Growing up in a tough environment, he had to look inside himself to make the right choices for himself and his family. Barry, and others like him, were able to take part in a cultural healing program called Red Dust Healing. This program encourages participants to examine their own personal hurt and allows them to heal from within, addressing family and personal relationships and what may be seen life-long patterns of violence, abuse and neglect. Today, thanks to the Caritas supported Red Dust Healing program, he’s an inspirational father to his four girls and a leader in his community. A brighter future for men, women and their families can start today. Let’s Go Further, Together.

Pope Francis says “our sister now cries out to us cause of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her….her cry, united with that of the poor, stirs our conscience to acknowledge our sins against creation” In our parish St James has done much to respond to this challenge with its garden and animals while St John’s uses its buildings to foster community building for many groups to gather. We have our project boxes/envelopes but do we take the extra step to inform our children and grandchildren as well ourselves about how great that human need is within and without Australia with two million children living on or below the poverty line. We watch the adverts about the little girl who goes to school as an outsider but are we discerning the deeper issue Pope Francis is pointing to?

Br Mark O’Connor accredited press observer at the recent Amazon synod in Rome & an astute analyser, is speaking on Tuesday 17 March at 8pm at St Kevin’s Church, 26 Herlihy’s Rd, Lower Templestowe. Mark has reflected deeply on the impact of this synod for the changing ace of the Church. Come along and be filled with hope as this engaging, wise man offers us precious insights on our Catholic tradition t the local, regional and universal level. This wonderful evening will be rounded off by the articulate and passionate Peter Johnstone (Catholics Renewal). There is good parking in the school grounds next to the Church and will start promptly at 8pm. (See Parish Website What’s On What’s New for flyer)

ANNUAL EASTER BISCUIT BAKE

Prison Fellow Australia needs 86,000 biscuits to provide every Victorian prison inmate with 10 home-made biscuits and a card explaining the meaning of Easter.

Volunteers distribute the biscuits in every Victorian prison in Holy Week. By baking biscuits for this appeal, you will be present to the prisoners, sharing God’s love in this very simple act.

* We need the biscuits by Monday 23 March * No nuts or peanut butter * Biscuits to be in sealed disposable containers eg ice-cream containers etc * Ingredients clearly listed on top of container * No limits on quantities as biscuits will be repacked in quantities of 10 * Invite families and friends to participate
