St. John’s Church is…..

Rooted in the doctrines of the Protestant Reformation. We believe we are saved by grace through faith in

Jesus, that the Bible is the rule for Christian life and faith, and that the Good News of Jesus should be

proclaimed in word and deed. Sacrament Celebrating. We believe God ministers to the community of believers in unique and special ways

though Baptism and Holy Communion. Liturgically Oriented. We believe remembering the whole life of Christ is important for spiritual maturity. We

follow the church calendar, celebrating seasons like Advent and Lent. Ecumenically Minded. In the context of our heritage, we believe all those who call upon Jesus as Lord will

share in his eternal blessings and so we welcome all believers who join us to participate fully in worship.

Thanks for visiting with us today! Feel free to call one of the pastors, Rev. John, Rev. Steve, or Rev. Stephen

734-0344 or check out our website www.sjepc.com to learn more about St. John’s.

SEPTEMBER COUNCIL MEETING

From the Council Meeting:

What’s Godly Play? Gyzelle Warren, Director of Children’s Ministries, opened this month’s council

meeting with a devotion in the style of our 4, 5, and 6 year olds on Sunday morning. The Council was

impressed with the power of story telling as we were led into an intimate time of prayer for family and friends

of St. John’s, as well as a discussion about our children’s ministry.

One of the more important orders of council business this year has been to establish two advisory

committees to assist the council in their labors: A Personnel Advisory Committee and a Finance Advisory

Committee.* These are not intended to replace constitutionally established committees but to simply aid them in

their work. The significant growth of St. John’s the past two decades means we need greater continuity in

dealing with financial and personnel matters. Continuity of longer terms will provide greater wisdom in

handling issues that arise. Any recommendation made by these committees MUST go before the council for

decision. Continue to pray for your council, the ministerial staff, and the work of Christ through St. John’s.

*Finance: Jimmy Barnes (Council Pres), Brannon Ray, Steve Stanford, Maria Schultz, and Jim Thompson.

*Personnel: Jimmy Barnes (Council Pres), Mike Baker, Scotty Blair, Buddy Franey, and Vickie Jackson.

One member rotates off each year and will be replaced by Council Appointment.

Peace, Reverend John
