Pastor’s Desk Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, For those who may have missed Mass here the last few weeks, I offer once again our latest priest personnel update: our parochial vicar, Fr. Ernesto Tibay, will be moving to one of our New Energies sister parishes, Ascension in New Milford, effective June 16th, and Fr. Arcadio B. Muñoz, parochial vicar at Ascension, will be coming here to replace Fr. Ernie! Fr. Wilson Chu, our summer parochial vicar, expects to arrive June 7th for what will likely be his last summer with us. Having defended his thesis in Spain, he will be returning to teach in the seminary of his diocese this autumn. Fr. Ernie’s Farewell Celebration will begin on Saturday, June 12th, at the 5:30pm Mass. Tickets to the reception in Conlon Hall, which will follow the Mass, at $15.00 per person are available at the rectory during the week. Seating is limited.

+++ Tomorrow we observe Memorial Day. I will not be able to join you this year for our concelebrated Mass at 9a.m., as I will be joining Most Reverend John M. Smith, Bishop of Trenton, at a Mass in Manalapan at 11a.m. of a woman from one of my previous assignments who is celebrating her 20th Anniversary of Solemn Consecration for Women Living in the World. The order of consecrated virginity was restored after the Second Vatican Council for laywomen who would lead a life in conformity with guidelines established by the Pope. I will remember you and your intentions, along with our veterans, at this Mass.

+++ Generally, the Archdiocesan Office of Parish Internal Audit visits a parish with the change of the pastor. Since I have completed my usual second term as of July 31st, even though I have been granted a third term of six years by Archbishop Myers, it seemed an appropriate time to conduct an audit, which will take place on August 4th. In addition to our parish accounts, any group or society which has a checking account with our parish name or has used our parish federal tax identification number in establishing the account must provide for me and the auditors by August 1st copies of all bank statements for the period beginning June 1, 2009 up to June 30, 2010, copies of all bank reconciliatons for the same period, checkbook stubs, checks, and deposit slips for the same period. Accounts related to Transfiguration Academy are not part of our parish audit.

+++ Thank you to all who have made and continue to make their pledges to the 2010 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. As of May 16th, our pledge total has risen to $196,526.50, which is almost 86% of our stretch goal of $228,629.50. If you have not done so, please remember to return your completed pledge envelope either in the collection basket or bring it to the rectory office, or return it in the mail directly to the Archdiocese. I count on every family to participate in some way this year.

Msgr. Richard Arnhols

Trinity Reflection

Peter denied Christ three times. Jesus rose on the third day. Jesus told Peter three times to “Feed my sheep.” So many things come in threes: faith, hope and charity; the magi; past, present and future; priests, prophets and kings. What is it about three that’s so powerful? The triangle has been described as the most durable shape there is. Its three sides and three angles make it a “perfect” figure that will never collapse into another form. Circles might become ovals, for example - but, even if you compress them, triangles will always be triangles. The greatest triangle of all, the Trinity, is what we celebrate today: our belief that God is three persons in one. We remind ourselves of this mystery every time we cross ourselves and say, “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
