A Few Words from the Pastor:A Few Words from the Pastor:

ADULT ED – This Sunday we continue our sessions “How to know and love and pray the Bible.” Our topic will be the Passion according to St. Matthew. You need only bring your bible and an open heart. Beginning Sun-day, February 23 we will be doing a series entitled “The Eucharist in Scripture”.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL PARENTS - it will not be long before our children will be registering for next year’s Catho-lic education. Typically, each child is to have a memorandum of understanding signed by parents and pastor. This year I would like to meet with each family to discuss how Catholic education is strengthening their family life. Thus, parents are asked to make an appointment with me to review the Memorandum for their child/ren as they prepare for another year of Catholic Education.

SAINT SCHOLASTICA (c. 480 – 543 A.D.) is a revered saint of both the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches. She is also honored in the Episcopal Church's calendar of saints. She was born in Italy. According to a ninth century tradition, she was the twin sister of Saint Benedict. Her feast day is this Monday, February 10. I always remember this day because my 4th grade teacher at St. Patrick’s was Sister Scholastica, well known for her “board of education.” Those of us who got out of line would quickly learn that there was a painful cost to misbehaving!!

OUR CATHOLIC KOBE BRYANT – It has been reported that hours before the deadly accident, Kobe went to pray at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Newport Beach, California. Father Steve Sallot, the pastor there, saw Kobe right before the start of 7 a.m. Mass on Jan. 26. “We shook hands, and I saw that he had blessed himself because there was a little Holy Water on his forehead,” he said. “So I knew that he gone into the chapel to pray, and he came out, blessed himself, and we spoke for a minute, shook hands, and off he went.“ Normally I don’t really chat with him, because he would come in and leave quietly,” Fr. Sallot explained, “and I respected that space for him.” We remember Kobe and his daughter and the others who died in that tragic accident!

A PASTOR WITH A LIMP – I’ve very much appreciated the words of encouragement that I have gotten as folks notice me walking with a limp. My right hip needs replaced, and I will be meeting with the doctor this week to set a date in the not too distant future. Thanks for your prayers.

The Eucharist in Scripture - Sunday morning Adult Ed during Lent This will be a six week study of the relationship between the New Covenant of the Body and Blood Christ and the books of the Covenant – the Old and New Testament in which Jesus speaks to us as the living WORD of God. We will begin on February 23rd and end up on March 29th, the week before Palm Sunday and Holy Week. We will ask for at least a $10 do-nation to cover the cost of the video and participation books. Sign-up sheets will be on the Scrip table in the Gathering space. If you have been with us in the past couple sessions, you can just check off your name. If you’re a new participant, use the sign-up sheet. Please join us for what should be a very enlightening and inspiring addition to our Lenten observance.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER: Who are the hungry, the op-pressed, the homeless, and the naked in your midst? How can you uncover your gifts so you can become a “light of the world” for them? As Christian stewards, we view our resources of time, talent, and treasure as gifts from God. We don’t pos-sess or own these resources, but we are entrusted with them to nurture their growth and use them wisely. Disciples and stewards allow their love of Jesus Christ to shine through their words and deeds so God may be revealed to others.
