PLEASE ADVISE THE RECTORY (359-0078) WHEN-EVER A PARISHIONER BECOMES HOMEBOUND, ILL, OR HOSPITALIZED SO ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE FOR A PRIEST, DEACON OR EUCHARISTIC MINISTER TO VISIT AND BRING COMMUNION TO THEM.

Dear Parishioners, This is the last note I write as your Administra-

tor. As you know, from this weekend, August 1/2 2015, the new Administrator of the church of St. John The Baptist will be Fr. Tom Kunnel, C.O. The "C.O." that I placed after his name stands for "Congregation Oratory", because Fr. Tom is a member of The New York Oratory of St. Philip Neri. I commend his personal holiness, his many talents and his loving dedication to you. He will bring you the warm love, the joyful spirit of St. Philip Neri, and St. Philip's concern for the salvation of your souls. You are blessed to have Fr. Tom. He will need your support, your prayers and your help. You need each other!

I thank you for your love for me during this time of transition and of miracles in the history of our church. I am not leaving you completely. As long as the Lord will bless me with good health, I will visit you, from time to time, celebrate with you the Eucharist, pray with you and for you, and enjoy our spirit of St. John's family.

It would be too long to individually thank all for your contributions during my tenure. I am afraid I could unintentionally omit someone. I thank especially our two Deacons, the Fathers of the Congregation of Canons Regular who serve our Spanish community, the Parish Council, the Trustees, Buildings and Grounds crew, the Parish Staff, our Ushers, money counters, the Catholic Daughters, Men's Club, Parish Worship and Music ministries, RCIA, the Hospitality Team, the Religious Education families and staff, our most precious Extraor-dinary Eucharistic Ministers and those in Health Minis-try who visit our sick, homebound and seniors in nursing homes. If I did not mention something, please forgive me and know that I love you and am grateful.

A special thank I reserve to Fr. Roman Palecko, C.O. He was an incredible help to me and brought to the parish his cordiality and friendship. I know how much you love him and how much you will miss him. He is assuming new responsibilities, but I am sure that he will visit with you from time to time to preserve your friendship.

I also want to thank Mrs. Isabelle Fenton for the many years of selfless, dedicated and sometimes sacrificial service to our church. You all know her motherly concern and loving kindness for us all. She is also my personal friend, a friendship that goes back at least 34 years. Please pray for her good health and that she may enjoy her retire-ment and draw even closer to her beloved Jesus. I prom-ise we will reward her with a nice party sometimes in September or October when everyone is back to regular activities. From our hearts, Isabelle, we thank you!

Fr. George, C.O.

Let’s do something beautiful for God!

THE GOOD NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL OF

RELIGION

Registration forms have been coming in, but ever sooo slow-ly. Many are also incomplete be-cause there are missing Baptis-mal Certificates (required for all new students - even if the child was baptized here at St. John's) and/or payment. Your child is not fully registered until we re-ceive all of the above. Also, please remember to regis-ter one child per form. It is very difficult to sort out details when two or three children are crammed onto one form. I thank all of you who have com-pleted your forms and returned them to the office. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

III. JOSEPH J. FALKENSTERN MARGARET MCPARTLAND

PILGRIMAGE TO GREECE

We will be following the footsteps of Apostle Paul from April 10—19 next year! Visit Thessalonika, Philippi, Corinth, Ephesus, plus the Meteora Monasteries. The trip includes a 3-day cruise to Santorini and Patmos, where St. John the Evangelist wrote Revelation. The price is $2,740 per person. There is a special $100 super saver dis-count if deposit of over $500 is received by July 10, 2015. Please contact Robin Miller, 359-0793, for a brochure and more information, or [email protected].

SUMMER HOSPITALITY

As we do every year we are asking for volunteers to con-tinue hospitality through the sum-mer. This includes all Sundays beginning June 28th through

September 13th (eleven Sundays). The sign-up sheet will be in the kitchen. Or you can e-mail Robin at [email protected]. Making coffee is not a prerequisite -- punch and cookies will do just fine. This is a great way to meet fellow parishioners, get your children involved or just give back if you have been enjoying Hospitality all year!

MUST ALL GOOD THINGS ALWAYS COME TO AN END?

After ten very happy years working for you and with you here at St. John’s, the time has come to say goodbye. As much as I will miss being here, I have been convinced by my family that I should retire. But I couldn’t leave without thanking so many of you for your kindness and generosity towards me. You made me feel welcome from day one, and, believe me, it’s hard leaving you. I pray that the Lord to bless each and everyone of you in my name.

AN ODE TO ISABELLE

Each and every Monday morning Isabelle arrives all filled with cheer,

As she knows bulletin time at the Rectory is oh, so near.

She dreams all items, announcements and articles on her desk will appear

For Wednesday is the day she always fears. By Tuesday she is in a dither engaged in

guessing Is there anyone who will be expressing.

Wednesday comes and gone is her smile She sits all serious and ponders a while.

At last it dribbles in and all seems fine By Thursday morning it’s gone on line.

Oh, lady bright, can this be right? Only you, our dear Isabelle Lee, could make

this weekly miracle be. We will miss you!

By our Pulitzer Prize and Noble Prize winner and resident Poet Laureate,

Janet Zahn.

THE SECRET OF HAPPINESS IS TO COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

WHILE OTHERS ARE ADDING UP THEIR TROUBLES.

TIPS FROM THE HEALTH EDUCATION MINISTRY

Pray for one another that you may find healing.” James 16

Sleep Apnea

Over 12 million people in the US are estimated to have sleep apnea in which breathing stops for short periods during sleep. There are two types of sleep apnea, the more common obstructive sleep ap-nea (OSA) in which there is a blockage or closing of the air passage in the back of the throat, and central sleep apnea which is caused by abnormal messages from the brain which stop breathing inappropri-ately. The most common symptom of OSA is stopping of breathing followed by loud snoring as a breath is taken in during sleep. Other symptoms include poor quality of sleep and excessive daytime sleepiness, and weight gain. If untreated, it eventually leads to de-creased levels of oxygen and increased levels of carbon dioxide in the blood which in turn can cause high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and death. Common risk factors include obesity, airway ab-normalities such as large tonsils or a thick neck, high blood pres-sure, the use of alcohol and sleep medications and sleeping on one’s back. Accurate diagnosis usually involves the use of sleep studies in which brain activity, breathing and oxygen levels in the blood (pulse oximetry) are recorded during monitored sleep in a special sleep laboratory. The most common treatment is the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) delivered by a small machine attached to a mask placed on the face during sleep. The delivers a constant stream of air pressure which helps to keep the air passage open and unobstructed. Occasionally, surgical proce-dures may be useful. Even a 10% reduction in weight can signifi-cantly improve OSA and people with OSA should avoid alcohol, smoking, and sleep medications.

A meaningful way to honor your dear ones, deceased or alive, is by con-

tributing towards the purchase of week-ly flowers for the Altar. The house of the Lord should always be beautiful.

Of course, another way is by buying bricks in their name for the walkway leading up to Our Lady’s outdoor shrine. This is a perma-nent memorial that is also very meaningful and only costs $125 per brick. If in-terested, please contact the Rectory at 359-0078. We thank those parish- ioners who have contributed to this beautiful cause.

PRO-LIFE NEWS

Co-chairman of the Bipartisan Con-gressional Pro-Life Caucus Rep. Chris Smith reacted to an investi-gative video released Tuesday by pro-life group Center for Medical Progress. The video depicted Planned Parenthood’s chief medical officer speaking about how to abort a baby intact in order to be able to harvest its body parts for sale. “We have known for a long time that Planned Parenthood is Child Abuse Incorpo-rated,” said Smith, a Republican from New Jersey, in a statement to Breitbart News. “The shocking video released today revealing Planned Parenthood’s engagement in selling baby body parts demands a response from Congress, and we will provide one.” “Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider, wounding women and profiting off of the death of children, first by dismembering unborn children and then by selling their organs piece by piece,” Smith added. “This horrific abuse must stop.” Smith was sponsor of the No Taxpay-er Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insur-ance Full Disclosure Act of 2015, which passed the House in January. “The fact that Planned Parenthood performs upwards of 327,000 abortions a year is heartbreaking and barbaric enough on its own,” Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) also said in a statement to Breitbart News. “The news that its employees engaged in the selling of aborted babies’ body parts is almost too much to bear and shows that Planned Parenthood’s disregard for innocent human life was even worse than we imagined.”

PRO-LIFE MASS There is a Pro-Life Mass celebrated every first Monday night of the month at 7:30 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd, in West Nyack. The next Pro-life Mass will be on Monday, August 3rd.

We welcome all our new parish-

George. May God bless your entering into our parish family! Having your name in our records is the only way we have of certifying that you are a practicing Catholic, as we have to do for people who are being asked to serve as sponsors of Baptism and Confirmation.

EL TRABAJO QUE DIOS QUIERE

¡Estamos tan ocupados!

M E S S A G E F O R P A R E N T S ! A reminder that we have closed-circuit televi-sion for parents with young children. You and the children will feel more comfortable attending Mass downstairs in Connelly Hall if they become noisy and/or fidgety. Communion will be brought down-stairs if you advise the Ushers. Take advantage of this service and everyone will be happier.
