RCIA Today during the 10am and noon masses the first rite for RCIA is being celebrated. It is known as the Rite of Acceptance and the Rite of Welcome. The period of inquiry is the first phase on the journey of faith. It is a time of getting acquainted and feeling comfortable in the company of other seekers and Catholics. After a period of in-quiry and a conversation with the RCIA director the person may seek acceptance into the Or-der of Catechumens, through the Rite of Acceptance. During this Rite, the inquirer stands amidst the parish community and states that he or she wants to become a baptized member of the Catholic Church. The parish assembly affirms this desire and the inquirer becomes a "catechumen." At this same rite those already baptized Christian are seeking full Communion of the Catholic Church. They too have completed the period of inquiry and through the rite are committing to deeper instruction leading to the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. They will become “candidates.” Please keep the following in your daily prayers:

Lord, help us to recognize you in the sick,

poor and suffering.

Liturgy Corner

compiled by Pat Raschio The Baptism of the Lord: The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord proclaims a theophany, a revelation or manifestation of the divine Sonship of Jesus by his anointing and appoint-ing to his messianic office. It is the feast that proclaims the Baptism that elevates believers to the status of sons and daughters of God. Surprisingly, on this the last day of the Christ-mas season the Gospel does not tell a story from Jesus' childhood. Instead the Gospel re-veals Jesus' relationship to God: the Son of Mary and Joseph is also God's own Son. We believe that through Baptism we are also made children of God. Beginning today, most or our Sunday Gospel readings will come from Mark, the oldest Gospel. The baptism of Jesus is considered an important manifestation of God in the person of Jesus. Jesus' baptism inaugu-rates his mission. Mark's Gospel moves quickly from the report of Jesus' baptism to Jesus' temptations in the desert to his ministry in Gali-lee after John's arrest. The end of the ministry of John the Baptist is the beginning of Jesus' ministry. In an analogous way, our Baptism in-augurates our mission as Christians. For reflection: Do I try to live out my baptismal call in my daily life? Do I know what my baptis-mal call is? Do I know anyone who is open to hearing the word of God? How can I bring it to him or her? (sources Loyola Press, ministry & liturgy, & At Home With The Word)

NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

On January 1st, Catholic News Service Reports: When Pope Francis met before Christmas with Vatican employees, mostly lay people with families, he asked them to do 10 things. The list sounded remarkably like suggestions for New Year’s resolutions:

Take care of your spiritual life, your relationship with God, because this is the backbone of everything we do and everything we are.

Take care of your family life, giving your

children and loved ones not just money, but most of all your time, attention and love.

Take care of your relationships with others,

transforming your faith into life and your words into good works, especially on behalf of the needy.

Be careful how you speak, purify your tongue of

offensive words, vulgarity and worldly decadence.

Heal wounds of the heart with the oil of for-

giveness, forgiving those who have hurt us and medicating the wounds we have caused others.

Look after your work, doing it with enthusiasm,

humility, competence, passion and with a spirit that knows how to thank the Lord.

Be careful of envy, lust, hatred and negative

feelings that devour our interior peace and transform us into destroyed and destructive people.

Watch out for anger that can lead to vengeance;

for laziness that leads to existential euthanasia; for pointing the finger at others, which leads to pride; and for complaining continually, which leads to desperation.

Take care of brothers and sisters who are

weaker … the elderly, the sick, the hungry, the homeless and strangers, because we will be judged on this.

TAKING THE NEXT STEP Results from our recent parish survey have been compiled

and reviewed, and we are ready to take the next step.

Several Town Hall meetings are scheduled so that every-

one can have an opportunity to help in planning how to

move from assessment to action.

The Tri-Council Leadership Group (including leaders

from the School Advisory Council, Finance Council, and

Pastoral Council) together with our pastor, has identified

four issues to be addressed, based on the results of the

feedback received:

►Create relevant methods to engage a diverse parish family (including demographics, ethnicity, age, and other social factors) and keep them engaged

►Develop Liturgy that combines traditional Catholic and some Catholic innovation

►Need to address all financial realities of running a parish in today’s terms

►Need to understand what God is calling us to do and then do it

It is very important to have many voices be included in this process.

So, YOU ARE INVITED and encouraged

to be a part of renewing our parish community by participating in one or

more of the following sessions:

Saturday, January 17

th at 6:30 pm in the Saalfeld Room

Sunday, Feb.1st at 8:30 am and again at 11:00 am in the Saalfeld Rm

Sunday, February 15th at 1:15 pm in the Saalfeld Room
