THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 28, 2020
A REFLECTION FROM FR. JAY…Catholic at Last, Catholic at LastThis weekend our RCIA catechumen and candidates will finally have the opportunity to come into the Catholic Church. Our catechumen, Rocco Argento, who is to be baptized and our candidates, Jeff Detwiler, Rita Heath, Justin Block, Melanie Manning and Mike Vanover who will be received into the Church this Saturday evening and will, along with Rocco, receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation. And then they will also receive the gift of their First Holy Communion. We usually bring our catechumens and candidates into the Church at the Easter Vigil, but with the Covid-19 lockdown that was not able to happen this year. The RCIA process is always a pretty long process, but this year it was lengthened as they continued to meet the entire time (via Zoom).I am so excited to be able to welcome them into the Holy Catholic Church now. To see new converts coming into the Church as always a sign of hope that the Holy Spirit continues to lead people to Jesus and His Bride the Church. In the Bible, God often speaks of “the remnant” of His people who seek to glorify Him and to fully live the faith. In a time when many have turned their backs on God’s eternal truth, it brings joy to my heart as people seek the truth and make sacrifices to live the truth in their lives. Please keep our newest Catholics in prayer as they enter into a new relationship with the Lord. Their willingness to seek out the truth and their enthusiasm for the faith is a reminder to all of us of the great treasure the Lord has shared with us. In these troubled times let us continue to live the fullness of faith filled with the joy and hope that only Jesus can give!
PARISH OFFICE:The Parish Office will be closed on July 3rd in celebration of Independence Day!
ST. HELEN PARISH PICNIC:This year’s Parish Picnic will once again be held at Wiegand’s Lake. The date for the picnic has been set for August 2, 2020. Please come and enjoy a fabulous outdoor setting, fantastic food, family, fun, and fellowship. Tickets will go on sale soon.
LEGION OF MARY: Our Legion of Mary is very saddened that we cannot do our works at this time because of the pandemic. We miss our homebound visits with the people that we have gotten so close to and are like our family, the nursing home contacts who look so forward to the Rosary, receiving Jesus and joining in on our monthly Masses, and the hospital with those suffering physical pain. We pray that through the invocation of our Most Blessed Mother that this time will soon pass and we can get back to our calling of serving Jesus through Mary. Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, Pray for Us. Roberta Elliott
SAINT HELEN PARISH DIRECTORY UPDATE: Our new directory printing was delayed by 4 months! Lifetouch, who is producing the directory, closed due to the Covid epidemic and is scheduled to open in August. The normal process for producing our book takes 3 months which means that we should get them sometime in October. IMPORTANT: Our directory is a private publication which is given to parishioners only. There is a printed roster in the back of the book with name, address and phone, the same as in past years. If you do not want to have your information in the roster, please contact Brianna at the office by July 22nd and let her know.
FIRST FRIDAY MASS will be on July 3rd at 7:00 p.m.: All are invited to celebrate Mass on the First Friday of July. Jesus promises “In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.”
FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION WILL BE ON SATURDAY, JULY 4TH! We will pray the Rosary at 8:20 a.m. before the 9:00 a.m. Mass on the 4th of July! Our Blessed Mother explained to Sister Lucia, one of the Fatima visionaries, that she would like prayers to make reparation on the First Saturday of the month for FIVE successive months. Join us on July 4th at 8:20 a.m. to say the Rosary before Mass. To those who faithfully follow Our Lady’s requests for the Five First Saturdays, she has made a wonderful promise which she, as Mediatrix of All Graces, will certainly fulfill: “I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation.” This means that our Blessed Mother will be present at the hour of death with the actual grace of final perseverance, (which after the gift/grace of Faith), is the most important grace.

LIFE TEEN SUMMER RETREAT: ENCOUNTER –With Social Distancing, July 18-21 at St. Helen ChurchIt’s time for a revival! We are offering our teens an opportunity to retreat and spend some much needed face time with Jesus! Jesus is calling our young people back to community and back to the Sacraments! Retreats are such an important component of their religious education experience at St. Helen Church. Through retreat experiences, they come to realize and feel how much they are loved by God and His Church and they become better equipped with all that is needed to make a permanent commitment to walk in Christ’s footsteps and continue a lifelong process of conversion. We have a God who meets us where we are at, and we believe this will absolutely be the case as we continue to adapt in response to the unprecedented circumstances in our world and in our Church. This four-day event may look a little different than the retreats and Harvest Workers service week the teens have come to know and love. But, we believe, it will be a powerful event for high school students (incoming freshmen through recent graduates) and is desperately needed in order for them to get back on track and recommit to being disciples for Jesus. The theme of our retreat is “ENCOUNTER – with Social Distancing.” Jesus is REAL! His presence in the Eucharist is REAL! He pursues and walks with us at every moment. We just need to recognize the many ways He provides for us to encounter Him and then embrace Him with total abandonment. Please consider sending your teen(s) to this powerful, life-giving, and life-changing retreat. This time away from “real life” will give the teens an opportunity to reflect on their lives, the path they have chosen, and their relationship with Christ. Their time on retreat will not be forgotten. They will leave this retreat spiritually refreshed, and they will move forward with stronger friendships rooted in Christ.Elements of the retreat include daily Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (including Sunset Mass and Adoration on the beach!), skits, teen witnesses, talks on the faith, small and large group discussions, Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, time with the Mercedarian Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, community builders, games, meals, prayer experiences, service, food drive, music, virtual talent show for our brothers and sisters in local nursing homes, a campout and bonfire, and so much more! The retreatants will be chaperoned and mentored by adults who have been Virtus trained and fingerprinted, have experience working with high school teenagers, and are strong in their Catholic faith. In all of Saint Pope John Paul II’s travels, he reached out to the young people and invited them to step forward in leadership and to be passionate witnesses of Christ. Please pray for all of those attending and helping with this special event that they may consider themselves chosen to walk with our Lord, to grow strong in their faith, and to live boldly for Christ. The Registration Package may be found on www.sthelen.com. Please note that the registration package includes permission form, photo/medical release form, and a letter from Fr. Jay with multiple items requiring parent signatures due to the Covid-19 situation. Please call Life Teen Youth Minister, Theresa Zickert (440) 781-7269 or Life Teen Administrative Assistant, Tammy Sadowski (330) 842-1745 [email protected] with any questions you may have. Registration deadline is July 3, 2020.
IT’S A MATTER OF LIFE...“Abortion and racism are both symptoms of a fundamental human error. The error is thinking that when someone stands in the way of our wants, we can justify getting that person out of our lives. Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness.” Dr. Alveda King.

I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.”
