Diaper Drive SJA Ladies Guild is again sponsoring a diaper drive to bene-

fit the families of the Omaha/Winnebago

Indian Reservation. These people have next

to nothing and jobs in the area are scarce.

This has forced mothers to wash and reuse

disposable diapers! We are collecting baby

diapers and baby supplies (baby shampoo, diaper cream,

baby lotion, etc.). No clothing or food, please. Other parish-

es are supplying those. The mothers especially need larger

sized diapers (size 4-6) as there are fewer in a box. Won’t

you help and spread the love of God to those less fortu-

nate? There will be a large box in the Gathering Area to

collect donations throughout October. Thanks in advance for

    your generosity.

HOPE Certificates can be purchased from the School Office.

HyVee gift cards are still available as

well as many other kinds of gift

cards. Stock up now for supplies,

    food, clothes, and holiday gifts.

    September 2020 Financial Report

    Summary

We experienced several positive results in September: general contributions,

tuition receipts, and expenses were all favorable to budget. We recorded a net

loss for the month ($16,758), but we were favorable to budget by $19,131.

Year-to-date, largely due to the July proceeds from the Paycheck Protection Pro-

gram, we are favorable to budget by $61,622. The news on the investment side

was less favorable: we experienced a market loss of $34,769, which – in combi-

nation with our operating loss, dividends, and other balance sheet changes –

reduced our cash position by $50,795. The following paragraphs provide addi-

    tional detail.

    Operating Results

Weekly contributions were quite strong for the month though we continue to see

a shortfall in maintenance contributions. The latter may be attributable to al-

tered giving patterns due to the pandemic. Tuition receipts were strong, and we

are tracking right on budget through three months, which is a very positive sign.

We also recorded two $500 gift receipts (one for the parish and another for the

school) from the Nebraska Healthy Places’ grant to help defray extra cleaning

costs due to COVID-19. Year-to-date revenue is favorable to budget by $48,047,

though we are slightly unfavorable after considering the July receipt from the

Paycheck Protection Program of $49,074 and the Nebraska grants ($1,000).

Expenses continue to track closely to budget, led by a favorable variance for

maintenance and supplies of $5,640, despite extra spending for cleaning,

    drinking water, and disinfectants.

    PPP and Other Grants

We have received a number of communications from First National Bank of

Omaha related to the procedures to request forgiveness of our PPP loan. How-

ever, we have not yet received final instructions. We continue to be confident

that we will be able to secure forgiveness for the entirety of our loan

($163,000). We will be asked to maintain records for the recently received gifts

from the Nebraska Healthy Places’ grants, but we do not expect the administra-

    tion to be difficult.

    Cash and Investments

Our cash position was reduced in September due a downward market move-

ment. (This is an example that markets do not always go up.)

    Other

    1. COVID. We are completing our first school quarter with no positive cases of

coronavirus among the students or staff. As the caseloads in Nebraska in-

crease, this success is increasingly remarkable. Continued congratulations to

Ms. Wallace and her team for diligence in adhering to extra safety procedures

    (masks, distancing, surface disinfecting, etc.).

    2. Carryover Items. We still await a written report from February’s Archdiocesan

audit report; we suspect it is held up due to the virus. As time permits we will

complete the review/updating of our Parish Directory and implementation of a

    new Online Giving portal.

    Finance Committee Chair

October 25, 2020 - 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all

your soul and with all your mind.” MATTHEW 22:37

Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of money,

power, status, comfort, or some personal possession great-

er than your love for God? Do you really recognize that eve-

rything you have and everything you are is a gift from God?

The good news - it’s not too late to put God first in all things

    in your life. Memorial Donation

Thank you to the family and friends of

    Merlin McRoberts

who made a donation of $500 in his name.

May his soul rest in peace.
