The common theme of today’s readings is “transformation”. The readings invite us to work with the assistance of the Holy Spirit to transform our lives by renewing them during Lent, and to radiate the glory and grace of the transfigured Lord which we have received to all around us by our Spirit-filled lives. The first reading describes the transformation of a pagan patri-arch into a believer in the one God. His name will be trans-formed from Abram to Abraham and his small family into a great nation. The second reading, taken from St. Paul’s sec-ond letter to Timothy, explains the type of Lenten transfor-

mation expected of us. We are transformed when we recognize the hand of a loving, providing and disciplining God behind all our hardships, pain and suffering. In the Transfiguration story in today’s Gospel, Jesus is revealed as a glorious figure, superior to Moses and Elijah. The primary purpose of Jesus’ Transfiguration was to allow Jesus to consult his Heavenly Father in order to ascertain His plan for His Son’s suffering, death and Resurrection. Life messages: (1) The Transubstantiation in the Holy Mass is the source of our strength. (2) Each Sacrament that we receive transforms us. (3) We need these ‘mountain-top’ experiences in our own lives.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, the relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux, one of the most popular Saints of modern times, will visit Australia on a four-month pilgrim-age along with the major relics of her parents, Saints Louis and Zélie Martin.

From the evening of Saturday March 14th to the morning of Sunday March15th, the family’s relics will visit St Joachim’s and will be here overnight, available for prayer and venera-tion. TEMPORARY CHANGES at Mass To Minimise the risk of infection - Corona

Virus

As COVID-19 continues to present challenges to health authorities around the world and in Aus-tralia, many dioceses have temporarily altered certain practices in the church/mass to ensure the health and safety of parishioners. Changes are as follows: a) Make the sign of the Cross when entering

the church without dipping your fingers in the holy water font - water will be removed;

b) Communion of the Precious Blood will be for the Celebrant only;

c) Communion may only be received only in the hand;

d) During the sign of peace DO NOT SHAKE HANDS but just acknowledge each other by saying “Peace be with you”;

e) Ministers of Communion - please use hand sanitisers before distribution of holy Com-munion begins;

We will keep monitoring the situation and will inform you parishioners should there be any further changes. In the meantime please join me in praying for the health of all of us.
