Thank you to all the people who helped make this Sundays Mass of Anointing a success. Welcome to all who took part, we miss your pres-ence here at St John Vianney and Holy Family.

A big thank you to all of you from both parishes who helped make the transition to the new Mass schedule we began this spring. It takes co-operation and willingness to adjust and continue something new. Again, the reason for the change was to accommodate the overflow from three Masses by adding a fourth Mass. If called upon please help with ministries as necessary.

Stewardship calls for making a response as a disciple. The belief that Hospitality is key and making room for everyone is central. We do not by just thinking about our own way of doing things because of fear. Stewardship means welcoming instead of passing judgment and saying that they should just stand or not be welcomed.

When we welcome others we attract more people to both parishes and our community grows stronger. Disciples respond, they do not dictate or respond because of their own opinion or their own belief. The teach-ing of the church makes clear that we gather around the Altar of Sacri-fice led by our priest to give God thanks and praise. In the process we welcome and be hospitable to as many people as possible, so that they find the joy and hope of the Church. I hope and pray that all our people will see the good of these changes in time and learn to accept and enter into, not be passive or refuse to take part in parish life.

Blessings on your week, Father Kevin

Thank you so much for a wonderful past seven months. I now head back to Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, MI for further studies. Next summer, God willing, I’ll be ordained a transitional deacon. This ordina-tion will most likely be at the Church of the Resurrection in Rochester. The following summer, the summer of 2010, God willing, I’ll be ordained a priest for the Diocese of Winona. This ordination will be at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Winona. You are all invited. Hopefully, your June calendar for 2010 isn’t too full yet. After ordination, I’ll be assigned to a parish somewhere in the Winona Diocese. So Fairmont is always a possibility. I first need to thank Father Kevin for inviting me to be a part of your com-munity. The staff too, both at the parish and at the school, have been won-derful, welcoming, and a lot of fun to work with. We had plenty of good laughs. I also want to thank those who came to the Bible study. A special thanks goes especially to the youth. As I said in my goodbye talk at the Masses last weekend, it is because of youth like you that called me to the priesthood. God has used you to affirm that call. I will greatly miss you, the students of St. John Vianney School. I will miss your smiling faces, your energy and zest for life, and your eagerness to share your lives with me. I will miss eating lunch with you, playing basketball, kickball, four square, and visiting your classrooms. Thank you to the teens as well. It was a true blessing to spend a week with you at Summer Fest. He has used you, along with the adults of the parish, to affirm my call to the priesthood. Thank you everyone. I will pray for the communities of St. John Vianney

and Holy Family in the years to come. Please keep me in your prayers as

well. I would love to hear from you, so drop me a note at

[email protected]. or write me at 2701 W Chicago, Detroit, MI, 48206.

God bless, Andrew Vogel

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

(C.L.O.W.) C.L.O.W. is for children in grades K-3, to hear the Sunday readings at their own level, and will begin on Sunday, September 28. But before it can be held, we need some help. We need leaders...at least 8-10, so you are not scheduled too often. Any confirmed member of SJV or HF parish is welcome to lead. We need piano players...the more the better. Younger youth through adults would be most welcome. You do not need to be accomplished. We need an artist...or more, to prepare a banner with the psalm response on it each week. Again these can be youth, adults, and combination. All materials will be provided. Call Mary Anne Mayberry at 235-5165 if you have any questions or to sign up for this ministry to our younger brothers and sisters.

Gift Bearers The gift bearer schedule for August and September is on the credenza in the library of the church. Please stop and sign up for a Mass or two that would be convenient for you and your family.

Thank You Thank you, thank you, thank you to all who helped make the 5th annual SJV Golf Classic a huge success, either by buying drawing tickets, by golfing, or by giving drawing and door prizes. We had 140 golfers participate on a beautiful day in July. The final figures are not in yet as we are waiting for some of the bills, but we did very well and we will get the final figures to you as soon as we can.

The Love & Logic Institute Presents…...

Creating Respectful, Responsible Kids on Monday, August 25, 7-9 PM at the Fairmont High School Performing Arts Center. Spend an evening with Dr. Charles Fay in person and learn how to get kids to listen the 1st time, put an end to arguing, back talking and power struggles. Reduce bullying, teasing, and sibling bickering. How to make good decisions when their friends are making poor ones. Cut down on nasty behavior in the vehicle, at the dinner table and getting ready in the morning. Bring fun and sanity back to parenting and much, much more. This is being sponsored by The Children’s Trust Fund and is a FREE event!

The Pro-Life Corner A "Wanted" Child …..Does your value depend on the degree that someone wants you? Let's be honest a child is a child. How could any baby be called unwanted when there are over one million couples waiting, hoping, and praying for a chance to adopt a child?

SCRIP News and Notes from Barb The Scrip profit for July was $1,852, which included $135 earned from gift cards/certificates that were given out to participants at the St. John Vianney School Golf Outing as thank you gifts. The golfers were able to choose a $10 gift of their choice from 18 different $10 gift cards/certificates. Everyone seemed to appreciate being able to pick out their own gifts. Thank you to the Golf Committee for utilizing the SJV Scrip Program for this great fundraising event for the school.

If your business has an event where they give gifts (golf outings, summer picnic, Christmas party, incentive programs, etc.), consider giving your employees Scrip gift cards. Call me at 235-5535, and we can discuss how gift cards would work for your business.

Scrip sales for the past two weeks were $9,220, for $397 profit. Thank you to everyone who supports the Scrip Program.

Scrip – Don’t go shopping without it!

We have $1 McDonald’s Gift Certificates for sale at the Parish Center or at the Scrip table. They are good until October 31, 2008.
