Dear Fellow Ministers,

By the time you read this, Fr. Tim’s call to St. John’s will have ended. His call to The

Church of The Advent, Federal Hill will just be beginning. His time here has enriched us.

We have enriched him. Christian formation is an ongoing process. One preacher de-

scribed it as like a box of rocks that is being constantly shaken. Each stone becomes

smoother and constantly changes shape due to the constant contact with other stones.

This is a great description. Fr. Tim has helped us form as Christians and we have helped him form as

a Priest. We have prepared him for his next challenge and he has prepared us for ours.

Because of this joint-formation we are in a fantastic position to continue our mission. We are still a

parish in transition. In some ways we always will be. Over the past few years, you have formed a

very strong parish. Our outreach ministries are vital and rival those of larger parishes. You have Wel-

comed our community on several occasions and there are plans to continue to do so.

Our Worship life is strong. Aside from our regular services, we continue to provide special opportuni-

ties such as our weekly healing service and the upcoming All Souls service.

In doing these things and others, you are Witnessing the Gospel, living by our Savior’s words and ex-

ample.

A sign of this is the wedding that took place on October 11. Woodie and Dennis were married in our

church. With the enthusiastic support of your fellow parishioners, your vestry, and your priest, our par-

ish supported a sacrament that was previously unavailable to some Christians. This is ground-

breaking stuff of which you should be very proud.

Yes we will be without regular clergy. The Search Committee is forming. The Diocese is identifying

candidates for Interim Rector.

St. John’s will continue to thrive and

Dear People of God,

As I reflect on the past year we have spent together, my heart is filled with joy. It has been my privilege and pleasure to be your priest. I want to say “thank you” for the many gifts you have offered to God in the work of ministry we have shared: gifts of love and friendship, gifts of con-

versation and reflection, gifts of hard work, gifts of prayer, laughter, and love. I know how deeply blessed I have been to serve among you. As you embark on the next season of your life you will partner with anoth-er clergy leader. In this time when you will surely be reflecting on the past as well as preparing for the fu-ture, and I offer you these final words as you prepare for the next season in your life as the Body of Christ

called St. John’s Church.

Over the past year, you have engaged in a re-newed effort to reach out to the people of your local communities. Remain engaged in this effort: it is your mission ‘to serve God and your community through your faith in Jesus Christ by welcoming all, worshiping together, witnessing the gospel and continuing God’s work in the world.” Over the past year we have tak-en a few risks in ministry together, such as an increased Church presence on the 4th of July and hosting the ‘Blue Service” for First Responders. Do not be afraid to keep taking risks in this way, even when some efforts might seem to fail according to our limited vision; your efforts have already produced good fruit,

and will bear even more fruit in God’s time.

Remember your history.Remember your history.Remember your history.Remember your history. Although St. John’s enjoyed a period of remarkable stability under Fr. Remington, his tenure was among the notable exceptions in the history of the parish. If we can see the past ten years in the light of our history, we understand that the history of St. John’s is characterized by periods of long-term clergy leaders alternating with periods of continual transition. You are in a season of transition, and although it can be difficult to cope with changes in clergy leadership, you have done so before and will do so again. Through it all, the baptized ministers of St. John’s have taken the lead and carried on the mis-sion of the Church. That mission is God’s gift and call for you, and in this work the Holy Spirit is always

with you.

You are buried with him in the waters of baptism and raised with him to a new and glorious life. Each one of us is called to ministry through the promises of the Baptismal Covenant. Holy Baptism unites us to God and to one another with a bond far stronger than death. Our relationship with Christ begins and ends in the waters of baptism, and in times of confusion or discernment, reflect on the promises of the Baptismal Covenant. These promises are the blueprints for Christian community, and will guide you in times of joy

and times of challenge.

May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, who called you to new life in baptism and has given you a share in his glorious ministry, and may the peace of God remain with you in every time and season,

to your salvation and to the glory of God.

Introductory New Testament Greek, Part 2, will begin in January.

Part 1 will be offered again if new students are interested.

Hebrew and Aramaic classes will also be offered if there is

sufficient interest.

A commemorative pilgrimage to honor the history and legacy of slavery

in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. A chance to visit the Episcopal

Churches of Maryland and witness them in a new light - looking at the

legacy of slavery and the impact it still bears witness to today.

Travel the Trail of Souls with us on the Day of Repentance and Recon-

ciliation, November 1, to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the

Abolition of Chattel Slavery in Maryland.

A bus pilgrimage and caravan will depart from the Diocesan Center/

Cathedral of the Incarnation in Baltimore and then proceed to three

historic parishes, ending at the Claggett Center, Buckeystown. Presid-

ing Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will join us for this Day of Repent-

ance and Reconciliation, along with Bishop Eugene Taylor Sutton and Bishop Suffragan Heather

Elizabeth Cook, and Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Diocese of Washington.

For the Seafarers, we will need supplies (these things and other stuff, too) for the Christmas Boxes. Don’t forget we will be packing and wrapping the boxes on November 2nd.
