Parish Discernment Preference Results At the last parish discernment session parishioners were invited to note their preferences for the types of ministry or worship initiatives the potential Mission Center could undertake. The results are not “a vote” but an opportunity to see where people’s interests lie. We will use these preferences in our discussions with the other institutions who may be involved in developing the proposal for the Mission Center. Our potential partners will also have ideas about how the center can address the needs of the Rogers Park/Edgewater neighborhood. La segunda colección de esta semana es para los servicios ignacianos. El invierno está sobre nosotros y el Día de Acción de Gracias está a la vuelta de la esquina. Para muchos de nuestros clientes de despensa de alimentos, esto crea problemas de salud y presupuesto. Un viaje no programado al médico seguido de una receta o el gasto de un medicamento de venta libre puede crear estrés para las familias. Un aumento en las facturas de calefacción también puede llevar a muchos de nuestros clientes a escatimar en su factura de supermercado para mantenerse calientes. Esto es cuando te conviertes en un ángel desconocido para nuestras familias. Su apoyo financiero durante el año nos permite proporcionar muchos artículos básicos que las familias necesitan. Las frutas y verduras frescas, la leche, los huevos, el pan junto con la pasta, los frijoles, el arroz, la mantequilla de maní, la gelatina y las sopas sin duda ayudan a un presupuesto alimenticio extendido. Ahora, hasta fin de año, también ofreceremos artículos especiales para las fiestas, mezcla para panqueques, aceites de cocina, mezcla para relleno, barras de granola, mezcla de brownie y jugos variados, son solo algunos. En diciembre ofreceremos a nuestras familias pavos, pollos o jamones para sus comidas navideñas. Cada mes damos la bienvenida a las familias a la despensa en promedio 275 familias. Durante los meses de noviembre y diciembre vemos muchas familias nuevas o familias que solo vienen en vacaciones. Nos dicen: "Solo venimos cuando realmente lo necesitamos" o "Vinimos por los artículos especiales para las fiestas: el presupuesto de este año es muy ajustado". This week’s second collection is for Ignatian Services. Winter is upon us and Thanksgiving is around the corner. For many of our food pantry clients this creates health and budget problems. An unscheduled trip to the doctor followed by a prescription or the expense of an over the counter drug can create stress for families. An increase in heating bills may also lead many of our clients to skimp on their grocery bill to stay warm. This is when you become an unsung angel to our families. Your financial support during the year enables us to provide many basic items that families need. Fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs, bread along with pasta, beans, rice, peanut butter, jelly, and soups certainly help a stretched food budget. Now through the end of the year we will also offer special holiday items pancake mix, cooking oils, stuffing mix, granola bars, brownie mix and assorted juice are just a few. In December we will offer our families turkeys, chickens or hams for their holiday meals. Each month we welcome families to the pantry on average 275 families. During the months of November and December we see many new families or ones that only come at holiday time. They tell us, “We only come when we really need it.” or “We came for the special holiday items – this year’s budget is really tight.” Regardless of why, we serve all who enter in your name. We treat them with dignity and respect. We see Christ in their eyes and the eyes of their children. Thank you for continued support, if you are able, we hope you can contribute to this week’s collection.

THANKSGIVING DINNER RESERVATIONS DUE! If you do not want to be alone on Thanksgiving or are unable to provide a dinner for your family, consider joining us. The doors to the Holy Name Room will open at 11:00 am and we will start to serve at 11:30 am. Reservations must be made by Sunday, November 24th.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES will not be held over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend Saturday, November 30th. Classes will resume on Saturday, December 7th. That day there will be classes for the students and a parent meeting.

Confirmation Retreat will be this Saturday, November 23 from 10 an until 2 pm in the Holy Name Room. All second-year Confirmation students in our Religious Education program and our 7TH grade students at NCA. The cost for lunch is $10.
