My dear family of St. Theresa’s,

For the second year in a row we gathered together with great joy to celebrate our parish wide community Mass in which we also celebrated of our patroness, St. Therese of Lixieux. What a marvelous way to grow closer as family giving thanks and praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ, while honoring Saint Theresa.

I am positive that our patroness rejoices with us in heaven and send us her blessings as we keep finding more little ways each and every day to make our parish family more united and closer to Jesus.

I thank each of you so much for participating as you have in serving our Lord and one another to make this community Mass so wonderful.

In a special way I would like to thank my fellow clergy; the members of our Staff; our parish Council; our Stewardship Committee-especially Leslie and Susan Choo for all their hard work in making this weekend’s celebration possible; and the Liturgy Committee for all they have done to make this Mass special. I would also like to sincerely thank our Altar Servers; Extraordinary Ministers; Lectors; Announcers; Ushers; all the Members of the Choir and those who trough their musical talents provided instrumental support to our choir. Thank you to our Knights of Columbus for their presence here among us to make this day memorable.

May this blessed celebration strengthen us as we continue building God’s Kingdom among us.

I look forward with great anticipation to next year’s 3rd annual glorious celebration of the Community Mass.

Mi querida Familia de Sta. Theresa,

Por segundo año consecutivo nos reunimos con mucha alegría para celebrar la Misa Comunitaria Parroquial en la cual también celebramos la fiesta de nuestra Patrona, Sta. Theresa de Lixieux. Que maravillosa manera de acercarnos mas como familia dando gracias y alabando a nuestro Señor Jesucristo, mientras honramos a Sta. Teresa.

Estoy seguro que nuestra Patrona se regocija con nosotros en el cielo y nos envía sus bendiciones mientras continuamos encontrando día a día pequeñas maneras de hacer que nuestra familia de Sta. Theresa este más unida y cerca a Jesús.

Agradezco profundamente a cada uno de ustedes por la participación que han tenido sirviendo al Señor y a todos nosotros, haciendo de esta Misa Comunitaria algo maravilloso.

Quiero agradecer de manera especial a mis hermanos del clero; al personal de la Oficina; al Consejo Parroquial; al Comité de Mayordomía, especialmente a Leslie y Susan Choo por el arduo trabajo que llevaron a cabo para hacer posible la celebración de este fin de semana y al Comité de Liturgia por todo lo que han hecho para que esta Misa fuera especial. Me gustaría también agradecer sinceramente a nuestros Servidores de Altar; Ministros Extraordinarios; Lectores; Anunciadores; Ujieres; a los miembros del Coro y a los que a través de su talentos musicales dieron soporte instrumental a nuestro Coro. A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR MENSAJE DE NUESTRO PARROCO

Queridos amigos, Mi tiempo en Sta. Teresa ha llegado a su fin. Fue una gracia maravillosa e inusual que el Arzobispo Gregory me hubiera asignado a mi propia parroquia los primeros meses preciosos de mi sacerdocio y nunca podré expresarle adecuadamente la inmensa gratitud que le debo por tomar esta oportunidad para enviarme a mi propia casa. Jesús mismo enseñó y experimentó que "ningún profeta es bien recibido en su propia tierra" (Lc 4:24). pero la aceptación que recibí en mi país de origen, en mi casa parroquial - ha sido poco menos que extraordinaria. En estos últimos siete años de seminario, fue una gran fuente de consuelo cruzar el umbral de mi pequeña parroquia en Douglasville y una vez más me encuentro en casa, como si nunca me hubiera ido. El camino hacia el sacerdocio me ha llevado a algunos lugares espectaculares y por algunas experiencias asombrosas, pero no estoy siendo melodramático o hiperbólico cuando digo con toda sinceridad que preferiría estar aquí en Sta. Teresa que en cualquier otro lugar. Siento una mezcla de alegría del nuevo sacerdocio y de tristeza de dejar la casa, con que regreso a Roma para mis estudios posteriores. Es poco probable que alguna vez sea asignado nuevamente a Sta. Teresa, pero esa es la naturaleza de la donación que una parroquia hace cuando un sacerdote se levanta en medio de ellos. El sacerdote es un regalo para la Iglesia, un embajador de la parroquia de donde vino, que la representa en sus acciones y en la manera en que ama a la gente a la que se le envía. Nunca podré olvidar mi parroquia. Nunca podré olvidar este extraordinario lugar donde recibí mi llamado y que voy a representar fielmente por el resto de los años de mi ministerio sacerdotal. Agradezco a cada uno de ustedes por el impacto que ha tenido en mi vida y mi sacerdocio en el futuro. Doy las gracias a todo el personal de Sta. Teresa y a nuestro amado vicario parroquial, padre Kizito por la manera ejemplar en la que vive su propio sacerdocio. Pero más que nada, tengo una deuda de gratitud hacia nuestro párroco, padre Fernando, que ha sido excepcionalmente piadoso conmigo, especialmente cuando cometía errores. Le doy las gracias por sus consejos, por su acogida y por su ejemplo como párroco y pastor de las almas. Los dejo con unas bellas palabras de nuestra santa patrona, Santa Teresa de Lisieux, que ha sido mi protectora e intercesora desde que conocí su sabiduría en esta parroquia hace unos diez años. Sta. Teresa comprendió el amor y la misión de amor para sumir al mundo en las llamas de la pasión cristiana. Las pequeñas almas de las que ella está hablando son las suyas, y les puedo prometer que son hermosas: ¿Pero por qué estos deseos, Jesús, de comunicar los secretos de tu amor? ¿No fuiste tú, y nadie más que tú, el que me los enseñó a mí? ¿Y no puedes, entonces, revelárselos también a otros...? Sí, lo sé muy bien, y te conjuro a que lo hagas. Te suplico que hagas descender tu mirada divina sobre un gran número de almas pequeñas...¡Te suplico que escojas una legión de pequeñas víctimas dignas de tu AMOR...! (Historia de un Alma, 11)

Dear Friends,

My time at St. Theresa has come to a close. It was a marvelous and unusual grace that Archbishop Gregory decided to send me to be with my own home parish for the precious first months of my priesthood, and I could never adequately express the overwhelming gratitude I owe to him for taking a chance and sending me home. Jesus himself taught and experienced that “no prophet is accepted in his own country” (Lk 4:24). But my acceptance in my home country—in my home parish—has been nothing short of extraordinary.

It has been a great source of comfort for me in these past seven years of seminary that whenever I crossed the threshold of my little parish in Douglasville I would once again find myself at home as if I had never left. My journey to the priesthood has taken me to some spectacular places and through some amazing experiences, but I am not being hyperbolic or melodramatic when I say with all sincerity that there is nowhere I would rather be than here at St. Theresa’s.

It is with a mixture of the joy of new priesthood and the sadness of leaving home that I return to Rome for further studies. It is unlikely that I would ever be assigned to St. Theresa’s again, but this is the nature of the gift a parish makes when a priest rises up from their midst. The priest is a gift to the Church, an ambassador of the parish from which he came, representing it in his actions and in the way he loves the people to whom he is sent.

I could never forget my home parish. I could never forget this extraordinary place from which I was called, and which I will represent faithfully for the rest of the years of my priestly ministry. I thank each of you for the impact you have had on my life and on my future priesthood. I thank especially the staff of St. Theresa’s and our beloved parochial vicar, Fr. Kizito for the exemplary way in which he lives his own priesthood. But most of all, I owe a debt of gratitude to our pastor, Fr. Fernando, who has been exceptionally gracious to me—especially when I made mistakes. I thank him for his advice, for his welcome, and for his example as a pastor and shepherd of souls.

I leave you with some beautiful words from our own patron saint, St. Theresa of Lisieux, who has been my protector and intercessor since I met her acquaintance at this parish some ten years ago. St. Theresa understood love, and she understood the mission of love, to engulf the world in the flames of Christian passion. The little souls she is speaking of are yours, and I can promise you, they are beautiful:

But why this desire to tell others the secrets of Your love? Can You not, Yourself, reveal to others what You have revealed to me? I know You can, and I beg You to do so. I implore You, cast Your eyes upon a multitude of little souls; choose from this world, I beg of You, a legion of little victims worthy of your LOVE! (Story of a Soul, 11)

Attention: Singles of St. Theresa - Please note that we have changed the October meeting date and place. We will be meeting at Carrabba’s Italian Restaurant off Chapel Hill Road in Douglasville, on Sunday, October 30th at 4 pm instead of at the Church

PLC. Please bring your church bulletin and plan on spending an hour or so with the other members of the ministry for good food and fellowship. Please RSVP if you plan on attending so we can reserve the seats ahead of time. Carrabba’s has some great specials on Sundays to help make it a more affordable outing for all. NATIONAL INFANT LOSS REMEMBRANCE DAY

October 15th is the National Infant Loss Remembrance Day. On this day the Archdiocese of

Atlanta embrace ministry will be hosting a Remembrance Walk with a prayer service and

butterfly release for those families who have lost baby from miscarriage, stillbirth or infant

death. This is a day when parents come together and are embraced by the love and support

from their families and friends. This is a day to reflect on loss yet embrace the love. The walk

is open to parents, their families and friends. The walk will be held at the Chancery 2401

Lake Park Drive SE, Smyrna, GA 30080 with a 3:00 pm check-in and walk starting at 4:00

pm. Please RSVP to embrace@archatl.com. Please include the # of walker and the # of angels you are walking for.

STEWARDSHIP WORD OF WISDOM PALABRAS DE SABIDURIA

Today’s Gospel reading poses some challenging stewardship questions. When Christ returns, will we be found working diligently in the Lord’s “vineyard;” converting our own hearts into a

rich harvest of love and compassion? Calling those outside of our vineyard to enter into the joy of the Lord? Or will we just be living, taking advantage of what the Lord have given us, but not doing our part in return? Jesus’ parable suggests that if we are not good stewards of the gifts we’ve been given then the gifts will be taken away, and we will be called to give an account for our failures. We have all we need for bountiful harvest. What will our Lord find when He returns?

El Evangelio de hoy tiene algunas preguntas desafiantes de corresponsabilidad. Cuando Cristo regrese, seremos encontrados trabajando diligentemente en la “viña” del Señor, transformando nuestros propios corazones en una abundante cosecha de amor y compasión? llamando a aquellos fuera de nuestra viña a entrar en el gozo del Señor? O estaremos simplemente viviendo, tomando ventaja de lo que el Señor nos ha dado, pero sin hacer nuestra parte como retribución? La parábola de Jesús sugiere que si no somos buenos corresponsables de los dones que se nos han dado, los dones serán retirados, y seremos llamados a responder por nuestros fracasos. Nosotros tenemos todo lo que necesitamos para una abundante cosecha. Que encontrará nuestro Señor cuando regrese?

Kizito to share in the festivities with so many members of St. Theresa family!. Thank you to all that made these events possible.
