ST. GEORGE “CARE COMMITTEE” ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MEMBERS

What a wonderful way to be involved in our St. George community while helping others!

The next Care Committee meeting is to be announced. For more information or if you know of a need the Committee could meet,

Please contact Presvytera Lisa (947-4709)

Dear Fellow Members of the St. George Family,

As we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord, it is a pleasure

to take a moment and reflect on all of the wonderful services that we

shared at Saint George. It is always a blessing to be able to gather together

with Our Family in Christ. Thank You to All who helped in action,

financial support and in spirit.

Spring has arrived and with it comes the opportunity to help out with

spring cleaning around the church. If you are interested and able, please

contact Kathy Fitzpatrick to help our Sunday School children make the

outside of our church look beautiful.

As you do your own spring cleaning at home please save items to donate

to our yard sale this summer. Summer is always a “financially lean” time

of year for Saint George. The yard sale helps us to raise some much

needed funds in order to keep our church running.

Welcome back to our snowbirds who are returning to us for the summer.

Please pack a little sunshine to share with us and enjoy safe travels.

With joyous hearts let us always keep in mind the Resurrection of Our

Lord and the sacrifice He made for us. Xristos Anesti!

Yours in the love of Our Lord,

Lee P. Speronis

Women's Book Group to Host Speaker - Saturday, June 4th

The St. George Women's Book Group has been discussing the book, In the Heart of the Desert, by Fr. Dn.

John Chryssavgis. On Saturday, June 4th, Fr. John has agreed to meet with us at St. George Church to

discuss his book! Fr. John is extremely knowledgeable and personable, travels widely with Patriarch

Bartholemew, but also lives right here in Maine. We are very fortunate that he will be able to talk with us.

The gathering is on Saturday, June 4th, at St. George Church in Bangor. We will meet downstairs beginning

at 9:30 a.m. for a welcome brunch, and then our discussion of Fr. John's book will begin around 10 a.m. A

catered lunch will be served, and then discussion will wrap up by 2 p.m.

This special gathering is open to all St. George women, but we strongly suggest that you read (or reread) Fr.

John's book and come prepared with questions for the author. In the Heart of the Desert is available through

Amazon.com, among other bookstores.

If you would like to attend, please RSVP - ASAP (or at least by May 21st). Just call Presvytera Lisa (947-

4709) or Marina Smitherman (866-7717). We also ask that you bring a small donation ($5.00), for the

basket that will be present, to cover Fr. John's travel expenses.

Please RSVP - ASAP...Thanks! We look forward to being with you!

Summer is on it’s way! As I write this we are having a beautiful, sunny day here in Bangor. We’ll enjoy it as

we prepare for some more rain in the coming days - I like to think of it as God’s way of watering the plants.

May He also bless us with some sun and warmer temperatures so that we may enjoy all of the beauty of His

creations.

Congratulations to all of the 2011 Graduates including Lori Panakis and Scottie Mitchell!

Congratulations to Father Adam! Father Adam will be celebrating the 10th year of his Ordination to the

Priesthood by his Eminence Metropolitan Methodios on the feast day of Sts. Constantine & Helen, May 21st.

News Needed! I’m always looking for news to put in Ta Nea. Anything that you would like to share with the

St. George Family would be greatly appreciated - anything at all! Even just a shout-out or weather reports

from wherever you are - we’re interested!

Well, Stephen Speronis has wrapped up his AAU basketball so no travelling for a while - phew! I’m

relieved. Especially with the price of gas lately! He’ll be heading to Bangor High School this coming fall.

Elena will be going to middle school. They grow up so fast!

I am going to be cooking like crazy this summer, preparing for Food Network and Masterchef auditions this

fall in MA. I’ll try to keep my blog updated. You can follow me at www.thedowneastdish.blogspot.com.

Safe travels to all this summer! Looking forward to the Festival!!

themselves.

Thanks for being vigilant in this regard!

St. George Church has a redemption “account” at the

Bottle Redemption on Broadway in Bangor across

from the Irving Station and next to Tri-City Pizza.

Just drop bottles off there - 7 days a week (they do not

need to be counted) and make sure to specify that they

are for the “St. George Church Account.”

Every little bottle adds up!

Christos Anesti! Christ is Risen!

Alithos Anesti! Truly He is Risen!!

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory

of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)

To the Most Reverend Hierarchs, the Reverend Priests and Deacons, the Monks and Nuns, the Presidents and Members

of the Parish Councils of the Greek Orthodox Communities, the Distinguished Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate,

the Day, Afternoon, and Church Schools, the Philoptochos Sisterhoods, the Youth, the

Hellenic Organizations, and the entire Greek Orthodox Family in America -

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Christ is Risen!

On this great and glorious feast of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts are filled with unspeakable joy,

our minds embrace the light of truth, and our souls are transformed by His presence in our midst and by His love for us.

This is most certainly a day of celebration, a day above all other days, which proclaims the triumph of life over death

and offers a beautiful witness of the power of grace and faith. This Feast of Holy Pascha is also a day of renewal. In

praise and thanksgiving, we present before all people the new life that is offered to us because Christ is risen from the

dead!

Our commemoration of this great Feast through hymns, prayers, and the proclamation of the Gospel, leads us to

consider the relationship of His Resurrection to all areas of our lives, to our innermost being, to our thoughts and

ctions, and to our aspirations and hopes for life now and for eternity. Just as we come with a candle and receive the light

of Pascha, so too the light and power of our Lord’s Resurrection should be received into our entire being. Through His

presence and grace, we are transfigured from death to life, we are renewed in the image and likeness of God, and in

newness of life we carry this light into all the world.

Pascha is a feast for our hearts, a celebration for our souls. Today, repentance is embraced with grace and forgiveness.

Hope overcomes despair. Heavenly joy replaces grief. Divine and assuring peace reigns over our inner struggles. Our

hearts are renewed with the strength to continue the journey of liberation from sin and evil.

Pascha is a feast for our minds. On this day, Truth is revealed as a superb light for all of humanity. Today, the light of

Pascha illuminates our minds. We receive the gift of the divine wisdom that guides us through life. We are blessed with

a vision of what is holy, pure, and just. In the light of Pascha, our minds contemplate all of the implications of our

Lord’s glorious Resurrection.

Today and in the days and weeks to come we will proclaim over and over again, Christ is risen from the dead,

trampling down death by death, and to those in the tombs bestowing life! After Christ’s Resurrection, the tombs are no

longer places of death but of life, bestowed to us by Him as this most precious gift.

On this blessed Pascha, I offer to you and your families my warmest wishes for a beautiful day of celebration and

fellowship. May our souls, hearts, and minds be filled with peace and love, and may our joy in Christ and His

Resurrection be a true witness of the new life we have in Him.

With paternal love in the Risen Lord,

DEMETRIOS
