INSURANCE AGENT’S MESSAGE

Update Your Beneficiaries

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the simplest of things.

Take, for example, the beneficiaries on your life insurance policies. If your policy was applied for and issued several years ago, it may very well be that the person you originally selected as the beneficiary is no longer the person you would want to receive the policy proceeds. If you bought the policy when you were single, for example, you may have named your parents as beneficiaries. If you have since married, your policies should be updated to reflect your spouse as beneficiary. Maybe you’ve had children since, who are not named on the policies.

Most people list a primary beneficiary, who is specifically designated as the first in priority to receive policy proceeds. We also encourage the naming of a contingent beneficiary, an alternate person designated to receive policy proceeds, usually in the event that the original beneficiary pre-deceases the insured.

I routinely call all of my policyholders for annual review appointments, usually near the anniversary date of your policy – that is, the date it was originally issued. One of the matters that I’ll discuss during this review is the status of your beneficiary designations. If they need updating, and they often do, I can complete the paperwork during that appointment.

I look forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your family’s needs.

MEMBERSHIP/COUNCIL – Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser: The council is planning to hold a pancake breakfast fund- raiser on Sunday, November 12th, at the Parish Hall from 7AM – 11AM. Tickets have already been sent to many of you. Please purchase or sell those tickets to your friends, neighbors, relatives, etc. You can also purchase tickets to donate to the needy. Free breakfasts will be delivered the morning of the pancake breakfast to El Caldito Soup Kitchen. The purpose is to raise funds in order to offset some of the council’s operating budget for Fraternal Year 2017-2018 that are not covered by our dues and Football Frenzy. Please keep in mind that we will not be using any funds from our Mega Bingo or other council charity fundraisers (e.g. Mothers Day Dance) to support the council activities. So please purchase your tickets. If you can’t make it, donate them to our El Caldito Soup Kitchen donation. Otherwise, come with your family and friends and enjoy a delicious breakfast for a good price. Photos from some of our recent pancake breakfast fundraisers appear below.

Some of our newest members are quick to volunteer! One of the greatest delights we experience in our council is new members who volunteer to help for their first time. We are a busy and productive council. There is something for everyone within the charitable activities we support. If you are interested in helping, just ask somebody. You will find the right place. Every month, many of our members are helping others as volunteers, either as individuals or as members of the Knights of Columbus. Below are some (random) photos of new members using their talents to help others. These are just a few photos from the many that could have been chosen.

Bro Art Padilla sells food tickets at Bro Juaquin Silva helping the Mega Bingo in October Carla Floyd at the Fiesta

Bro Alfonso Esqueda cooking beans Bro Chris Hernandez working at the El Caldito Easter Dinner in the El Caldito kitchen

Bro Tommie Medina on pots & Lady Karen Frye making coffee pans at the Enchilada Dinner at the Valentines Day Dance

Mothers Day Dance We are in the planning phase for our Mothers Day Dance in May of 2018. This year, we held a Valentines Day Dance for Charity that was very successful. (Photos from that event are below) We hope to carry over that success with a Mothers Day Dance this coming spring. A Working Group has been formed that includes Jesus Frietze (Lead), Jaime Flores, Art Padilla, Bob Ponzini, Ruben Salcido and Jose Tapia. If you are interested in helping with the planning, and contributing to the work, please contact one of the Working Group members. Please start thinking about the Mothers Day Dance in advance. Will you and your family attend? Do you have relatives and friends who might be interested? We will keep you posted, at council meetings, through the newsletter and on our website, as the planning evolves.
