Reconciliation by appointment during the pandemic

  • Dear Brothers and Sisters, If we wish to follow Christ and find salvation we must learn to carry our cross. This is what Jesus spoke to his disciples about today in the Gospel. What is our own experience of suffering like? What thoughts come to mind when we say the word, “cross”? Being a Christian is not easy. It involves a lot of sacrifice for the sake of the kingdom. There are moments when the weight of the cross pulls us down. Christ suffered greatly for our salvation; he paid for it by his blood. We must therefore trust in the Lord and follow him every day. There are so many activities happening in and around our parish. I consider myself blessed to be surrounded by so many people who are doing a lot here in the parish to keep it going and to make it a better place. We have so many faithful volunteers behind the seen that are doing so much, this includes sanitizing and fogging the church with the disinfectants after the services. We are called to enrich this com-munity by our love. Please if you have any idea or you want to do something for our parish; don’t hesitate to reach out to talk about how we can enhance your ideas. We are obligated to pass the faith to our children. This can only happen if we our-selves are stronger in our faith and share it. We continue to pray for the safety of our children at school, the teachers and the supporting staff. We remember also in prayers our leaders, both civil and church that the Holy Spirit may guide and strengthen them in their duties as they make the decision that affect the God’s children. I remain your brother in Christ Fr. Crispine Adongo

SAINT GREGORY THE GREAT (540-604) September 3 Imagine, fourteen hundred years after death, boasting a best-selling CD! Yet outside the Church and within, Gregorian chant is enjoying a renaissance. Still, the timeless sacred music that bears his name is but part of Gregory’s legacy. Renouncing civic service for monastic life, Gregory’s administrative and diplomatic skills prompted continual summons from the cloister. Papal ambassador and advisor, he was eventually elected pope himself, renowned as a wise steward of the church’s material possessions, generous benefactor of the poor, sponsor of missionaries, and promotor of mo-nasticism.

Father Sherry grew up in Holy Angels Parish in Aurora, Illinois, and attended St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana and St. Paul Seminary in Minnesota. Ordained in 1966 as a priest for the Diocese of Rockford he earned a Mas-ters in Religious Education in 1975 from Loyola University in Chicago and a Doctor of Ministry in 1985 from St. Mary’s of the Lake University in Illinois. We thank Father Robert N. Sherry of the Cross Catholic Outreach for speaking on be-half of the poor in developing countries. Cross Catholic Outreach was founded to create a meaningful link between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas in the Caribbean, Africa, Central and South America.

Write the name of the person or couple you wish to nominate in the blank below and state why you think they deserve this award. For example, how do they use their gifts of time, talent and treasure for the parish? Please sign your name, fold and put it in the weekend collection basket or you may mail or drop off at the parish office. Past nominees are listed on the back of this form. They cannot be nominated again. Nominations need to be turned in no later than Wednesday, September 9, 2020.
