Dear Parishioners: There is a story called “Stone Soup” which tells of a weary and hungry traveler who walked into a small town in the hope of finding a meal and a place to stay for the night. Unfortunately, its inhabitants were poor and home after home shut their doors and shutters murmuring excuses like “a bad harvest” or “no rain this year.” Finally, the man went to the town square and shouted, “But never mind, be-cause tonight I will make a pot of delicious stone soup.” This made the townspeople extremely curious and they wondered how it was made. In the mean-time the fellow pulled a round stone from his leather satch-el. “But first I will need a kettle with water and some firewood,” and a door opened to fulfill the request. “Some salt and pepper would make the soup most excellent.” An-other door opened and salt and pepper were added. “Some carrots and cabbage,” and then “some leeks, onions, oil…” all were brought to the square and added to the mix. The man tasted the soup and said, “This is food fit for a king!” Before he knew it tables and chairs, torches, decorations, and even instruments that had not been played in years all were brought out and added to the celebration. All the people of the town ate their fill of the delicious soup and the next day they pleaded with their visitor to return soon; as he had left them much happier. Today’s Gospel recounts the miracle of the Loaves and the Fishes. It can easily be argued that the true miracle was that of sharing. In a nation where 40% of our food is thrown away and obesity is an epidemic, it makes one wonder if Jesus is waiting for us to share our few loaves and fishes to feed a hungry world where there is enough food

for all of its people. Love and Prayers, Bro. John

Estimados Feligreses:

Mucho amor y bendiciones, Hno. Juan

HOW SHOULD WE DRESS FOR MASS? People generally have no real problem wearing proper clothing when entering places that demand such at-tire. Would you ever consider attending a formal dinner or a wedding dressed in a tee shirt and shorts, or a tank top and swimming trunks? Each Sunday the Lord invites us to His House. Are you dressed properly for this important Sacred Sacrificial Meal?

WEEKLY MIRACLE

This week marks the beginning of a kind of “liturgical de-

tour.” We have been listening to Saint Mark’s Gospel during this

liturgical year (Year B). Today we begin to hear a long section

from John’s Gospel, starting with the miracle of the multiplica-

tion of the loaves and fishes. This miracle story is a prelude to the

Lord’s statements that we will begin hearing in a few weeks, in

which Jesus refers to himself as the “bread of life.” Each week we

witness a miracle at Mass. We do not see a multiplication of

loaves before us. What our eyes of faith allow us to see is the mir-

acle of the transformation of common elements—bread and

wine—into the Lord’s Body and Blood. Once we have received

the Lord, the multiplication begins, for in the Eucharist we are

strengthened to multiply our efforts to feed the poor, shelter the

homeless, and bring comfort to the despairing.

MILAGRO SEMANAL

Cada semana so-
