    DID YOU KNOW?

If you have difficulty getting up to receive Holy Communion, the front row on both sides of the back section are reserved so that the Eucharistic Ministers can come directly to you. Please feel free to use these seats - your family is welcome to sit with you. The pews are marked “Reserved.”

We are very grateful to those in the military who have dedicated themselves to protect our liberty and freedom. Please keep our troops in your prayers, especially Bill Knips, Paul Golando, Nicholas D’Urso, Connor McKiernan, Patrick Sullivan, and William Benagh.

If you have an intention for Mass, consider presenting the gifts of bread and wine during that celebration. Please arrive early and inform the ushers before Mass. It is through Baptism that we are joined with Christ, share in His passion, death and resurrection and so are saved from our sins and

become adopted children of God, sharing in divine life.

This miracle of God’s love and grace will be bestowed upon:

Justin Thomas Orbacz child of Thomas & Stacey (Samora) Orbacz, Lorenzo Max Makiling child of Mark & Cheryline (Pezzullo) Makiling, & Ariana Mae Pokrajac child of Aleksander & Samantha (Saladino) Pokrajac.

Please pray for these children and their parents, that they may be faithful to God’s call to salvation.

    St. Francis Bread

Our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, ministered to the poor and the deprived people of his time. In the “spirit” of St. Francis, we too have a great legacy of ministering to the poor of Rockland County. All parishioners are invited to donate non-perishable food items which will go Catholic Community Services of Rockland. Please check the expiration date on the items being donated.

Donations will be accepted the weekend of June 19-20.

Second Collection This weekend we take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Many people in Latin America and the Caribbean so not have access to Church programs and ministries because of a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers. Your generosity makes it possible for our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean to share in the life of the Church and grow closer to Christ.

Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today! Your support funds religious education, seminary formation, lay ministry training, and other programs that build vibrant faith communities right here in the US.

Please be generous to these special collections!

    A FATHER’S DAY PRAYER

God our Father, We give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old.

We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation, may they find courage and perseverance to balance work,

family and faith in joy and sacrifice.

We pray for our own Fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering, may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.

We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our

memory and nourish us with their love.

    Amen

Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland On behalf of the staff and the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities Community Services of Rockland (CCCSR), we thank you whole-heartedly for your generous contribution of 25 bags of food in March, 40 bags of food in April & 30 bags of food in May. Your contribution helps to support and “Meet the Need” of individuals and families that walk through our doors. Because of you we are able to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve. Without your on-going support and contributions this would not be possible. We provide emergency financial assistance to prevent evictions and utility cut off, food, and other emergency assistance, immigration services and counseling for the basic needs of life. These programs were put in place to alleviate poverty and to serve as a “safety and support net” for all our County residents who have either lived in poverty all their lives or fallen into poverty due to unexpected circumstances. Once again, you make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

In gratitude, LuAnn Kelley, Associate Director

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and the Feast of the Sacred Heart

This past Friday we celebrated the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The origins of this great feast of the love of Jesus for his people come from the holiness of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and the revelations she was given from our Lord. Within this article, I provide some of the history and background to the annual celebration of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

“On May 25, 1671, at the age of 23, Margaret (Alacoque) entered the Order of the Visitation convent at Paray-le-Monial (France). She pronounced her final vows on November 6, 1672 and took the name Mary. During her retreat before her profession, she had a vision of Jesus in which He said, ‘Behold the wound in my side, wherein you are to make your abode, now and forever.’ The Lord continued to appear to her in visions and on December 27, 1673, the feast of Saint John the Evangelist, as she knelt at the grill before the exposed Blessed Sacrament, she experienced a vision in which the Lord told her to take the place that Saint John had occupied at the Last Supper, and that she would act as His instrument. Jesus revealed His Sacred Heart as a symbol of His love for mankind, saying, ‘My divine Heart is so inflamed with love for mankind…that it can no longer contain within itself the flames of its burning charity and must spread them abroad by your means.’ She described that His Heart was on fire and surrounded by a crown of thorns. Our Lord told her that the flames represented His love for humanity, and the thorns represented man’s sinfulness and ingratitude. Jesus informed her that her mission was to establish the devotion to His Most Sacred Heart…

Margaret Mary became ill and died on October 17, 1690 during the fourth anointing step of the last rites. As she received the Last Sacrament, she said, ‘I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus.’

The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was officially recognized and approved by Pope Clement XIII in 1765, seventy-five years after her death. Margaret Mary was declared Venerable in March, 1824 by Pope Leo XII, and she was pronounced Blessed on September 18, 1864 by Pope Pius IX. The inauguration of the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus occurred in 1856, and Margaret Mary was canonized by Benedict XV in 1920.” (taken from the website sacredheartapostolate.com)

Very early (in the fourteenth century) the custom developed of carrying the Blessed Sacrament in a splendid procession through the town after the Mass on Corpus Christi Day. This was encouraged by the popes, some of whom granted special indulgences to all participants. The Council of Trent (1545-1563) solemnly approved and recommended the procession on Corpus Christi as

a public profession of the Catholic faith in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Sacrament.

The 2022 Mass Book will open on Thursday, June 24, 2021 By Appointment Only / Change of Location: Rader Hall

Anyone wishing to have a Mass celebrated at any of the scheduled Masses during the year 2022 must schedule an appointment either on the St. Francis website, through Flocknote.com (https://sfawnyack.flocknote.com/signup/59328) or by contacting the Rectory (845-634-4957 or [email protected]).

Appointments will be scheduled for Thursday, June 24 between the hours of 10am & 2:40pm in Rader Hall. At your designated time, please enter Rader Hall, practice social distancing, and wear a mask/face covering.

Because of the increased demand, we will limit the number of masses to six per year. Many people like to remember certain dates or events of a loved one’s life. Possibly, these remembrances can be combined. Please understand these concerns when you plan for next year’s Masses.
