Saint Francis Bread

St. Francis Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on Wednesday, October 17. New members are most welcome. For more information, please call Sr. Pat at (845)634-4957 or email at [email protected]

St. Francis Bread Our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, ministered to the poor and the deprived people of his time. In the “spirit” of St. Francis, we too have a great legacy of ministering to the poor of Rockland County. All parishioners are invited to donate one non-perishable food item which will go Catholic Community Services of Rockland. Please check the expiration date on the items being donated.

Donations will be accepted the weekend of October 20-21

We just had three wonderful events take place over the last three weeks – the Parish Golf Outing, the Fall Festival and Ice Cream Social. Each of these were smashing successes due to the hard work and dedication of so many volunteers, generous parishioners and people in the community. The Golf Outing was led by Jim and Ellen McLiverty who guided the Golf Committee, a well-oiled machine, to execute a wonderful and fun day of golf and prizes. Their efforts to secure sponsors, auction prizes, raffle prizes and golf prizes raised over thirty thousand dollars for the Parish.

The Fall Festival was bigger and better this year due to the tireless efforts of Dena Fischetti and Barbara Beckmann. Through their leadership, many volunteers from the Catholic Daughters, Knights of Columbus, the Youth Group and the Cornerstone men and women made the day full of fun with food, crafts, rides, chili and pie making contests, etc. Thank you to all who helped out that day and made it possible for many Parish families to enjoy themselves at our Fall Festival.

Ice Cream Social just completed its fifth performance and raised over nineteen thousand dollars for a Parish family whose daughter was diagnosed with leukemia over the summer. Through the energetic leadership of Cathy Hoehmann, youth of our Parish and the community volunteered their time and talents to put on a fun and enthusiastic performance of the marriage of Shrek and Fiona. Parents and youth alike volunteered to set up for the shows, serve the ice cream and clean up afterwards. Once again Ice Cream Social showcased charity alive in our midst. Thank you to all of those who were part of this special weekend.

In Christ, Fr. Robert F. McKeon

The Pro Life Committee gratefully thanks our parishioners for their overwhelming support of their donations of this past weekend's Support a Baby. May God bless you for your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity for this most needy and worthy cause.

Reflections of a Wife and Mother – XXIII Here are more of my mom’s wonderful, spiritual reflections. I’m glad so many of you are enjoying these gems of the faith. May they continue to inspire more and deeper prayer. May - Mary's month: O Mother, enrich our faith, enliven our hope, magnify our love. Teach us what it means to be like Mary. Let us be still now and then and listen as You teach.

Welcome the morning with, "Yes!"

What are we doing at every Mass, in every sacrament, in every prayer? Praising and Thanking God. And yes, in our darkest moments. "This is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us."

Ask the Holy Spirit to inflame your heart with the love of God and His word. "Come O Holy Spirit, set our hearts aflame with the love of God and His life changing Word."

In truth my soul knows Your beauty; even a hint of deceit clouds my pathway to You. O Jesus, strengthen me to live a life that is pure, honest and true.

"Jesus, I long for You. Speak tenderly to my heart like a lover who whispers in the ear of his beloved." Such beautiful words but do I take them deeper? Do I respond to Jesus' love with my eyes on the other rather than always on me?

"May my love for You, O Lord, express itself in my eagerness to do good for others."

Fr. Robert F. McKeon

Come Holy Spirit! The motion picture Gosnell: The Trial of America's Biggest Serial Killer is being released this Friday, October 12, midway into our Fall 40 Days for Life Campaign. This movie reminds us of the great need for our fasting and intercessory prayers for the conversion of hearts of those who promote abortion and its culture of death. Supporting this movie will bring to light a trial that was ignored by major media and will generate awareness regarding the abuse to "women's health," which is the driving argument for the need for abortion by those who hold themselves out to be pro-women. Bringing to light the need for more legal accountability by abortion providers and true protection for women's health is important now more than ever--as Governor Cuomo has recently promised to push through Abortion Expansion law in January 2019, which will permit abortionists like Gosnell into New York.
